Diversity Lottery after "winner" letter -- How long does it take?
Hello,
Early October 2002 I received letter from the Kentucky Consular Center
(KCC) that I was selected in the DV-2003 Green Card lottery. The
package included a bunch of forms to fill in and send back as soon as
possible. Which I did.
Just before Christmas, KCC told me via e-mail that my case has been
processed and is now waiting to be scheduled for an interview
appointment. According to the e-mail, interviews are scheduled
numerically based on case number.
Late December KCC was scheduling interviews for those whose case
number is below 19125. Mine is close to 40000. KCC told me that once
my case number becomes "current" an interview will be scheduled and I
will be contacted by mail.
Does anybody have any idea how long this should take? What are my
chances of actually getting an interview with my high case number?
Also, my employer -- an American company with a local subsidiary in my
country -- has offered me a position in the U.S. They may request an
L-1 nonimmigrant visa for me as an intracompany transferee. Is that a
wise route, and should I then apply for change of status in the U.S.?
Or should we wait for the DV process to finish?
Thanks for any advise,
Joris

Diversity Lottery
Does it means that if I have not got a reply or letter , that I have no
chance at the lottery already.. is it still sorting out ?

Dreamcast, only winners will be informed, they don't notify you, if you didn't win.

Probably the safest thing for you to do is to accept the offer of the L-1
position, and continue in your DV process exactly as you are. When it comes
time for the consular interview, you will go to your home country for a few
days, appear at the interview, obtain an immigrant visa, and become a
permanent resident upon entry to the U.S.
If you were to change your strategy, and apply for adjustment of status from
L-1 to permanent within the U.S., you would most likely lower your chances
of success in getting DV-based PR status.
If the DV process does not work out, you are in the U.S., and could perhaps
qualify for employment-based immigration.

Ivonne, he did win, at least as close as one can get.
The notification letter is sent to only 100'000 thousend people, out of
about 20 millions who had sent their address to Kentucky.
Now, first come, first serve. About 50 percent of those selected and
notified will recieve a greencard. I was informed today that I got a
greencard (i am from Switzerland). My case number EU0000018xx was delayed
due to some missiong document. If you now your appointment date you will
know when you can expect a definite answer to the question whether of not
there are any greencards left.
Usually they decide it on the spot.
However, if you have a company organise a visa for you, you don't have to
pay for medical check and so on.

Re: Diversity Lottery
For the current lottery (DV-2004) the notification letters start in the
spring and continue, sometimes up to September. One of our clients was
notified on September 9 last year, although her sequence number (Asia) is
pretty high.
If you are referring to DV-2003, there are no more first notices being sent
out, as far as I know.

Re: Diversity Lottery after "winner" letter -- How long does it take?
Hi,
I recieved a letter that I won the DV2004 lottery program in the end of June 2003. I sent all filled forms to KCC in the middle of July 2003. My case number is EU0000002x and I still haven't recieved an invitation letter for visa interview. Does anybody know when I can expect to have the visa interview?
Thanks.

In US interviews never start before October 1 - it is tied to the beginning of the fiscal year. The consular processing should be similar.

Re: Diversity Lottery after "winner" letter -- How long does it take?
We won the DV-2003 lottery. We got our letter from Kentucky in October 2002 and our next letter with visa appointment came in July 2003 (we had the interview in August). The last month for getting interviews was September 2003. After that the DV-2003 lottery was closed.
