Andrew, my life long dream has been to visit Jordan. Amman and onto Petra would be a great start.

Alas.....my other half is a yank and thinks anywhere past Italy is no go ( and he doesn't even wear a baseball hat!). Any words you can provide from a local to help me convince him it is safe?!

Aqaba is beatiful.

Looselips. I am american, I have been to Amman, Aqaba, and the Dead Sea area several times recently.

Yes it isn't exactly Dubai, but just don't head into east amman and its perfectly safe there, and a great place to visit (don't miss Jerash)

Jordan is safe with the same risks as many other countries, the biggest risks are crazy Jordanian driving (to be seen to be believed), death by over eating (Jordanians insist on stuffing you full of food) and Arabic hospitality which can drain hours out of your day

The internal security services here know pretty much everything that goes on and armed police are pretty much everywhere. As a poster here stated, you need to make sure where not to go but these are very limited places.

Its a great place, everyone should experience Jordan once in their life.

Now, I must be truly special as nobody has admitted to being an ex pat in Amman - therefore I am unique!!!

Enjoy

Andrew

Agreed, the hospitality of the jordanians is unmatched, and you will gain several KG while you are there.
