Confession: my son bought me an Aeropress as a birthday present so I have been sampling coffee roasters as well as just cups of coffee.

Coffee Roasters New Zealand, Max Coffee, Kerikeri, NZ in Kerikeri is another cracking place to visit - a little industrial unit with the roaster and grinder in the back.

Admittedly you can buy a cup of really bad coffee anywhere in the world.

Just looked up where Pegasus is.

I am a little concerned if there is no decent coffee in Christchurch - ISTR a half way decent place in the pop up container city near the centre, but that was a couple of years back.

Great coffee in Canterbury don't worry - Tom H has a weird sense of humour!

You're talking about areas that love to promote "flat white" as a coffee.

If flat white is classed as a coffee, then Donald Trump is a Mexican loving Muslim. I actually like to taste coffee and it being hot, not full of frothy cold milk with about a center meter of coffee.

Oh and moccona is not coffee.

Listen, I know where you are coming from, but I realise there is no point in me saying flat white is actually coffee. I mean we are all going to buy it because we know it's fine but conversationally I'd be on to a real loser. I mean every coffee you get you can never look worse for saying it doesn't taste of coffee because admitting coffee actually does taste like coffee is incredibly unfashionable. Looking like you have the most refined pallet in the world is just a question of turning your nose up at pretty much everything.

Now I'll skip the coffee because that's clearly been 'done' and have a bottle of Waiwera. Mmm...isn't it nice to have some water that really tastes of water.

It's a lot like listening to all the pseuds talking of wine, when we all know that behind closed doors they would probably drink any old wine slops out of a cardboard box.

Like Tom, I prefer my coffee straight-up with no messing so it really baffles me when all these so called coffee loving experts are slurping back a bucket load of 'half strength, skinny soy latte' or their preferred choice of other slightly coffee flavoured, milky desserts with added syrups, marshmallows and chocolate sprinkles.

When we are all aware the only way to improve coffee is whisky and cream or brandy and sugar cubes.

Humbly suggest "bullet proof" coffee.

Full go is coffee, cream, coconut oil and butter.

I can't hack the coconut, so I go for "bullet resistant" coffee - very strong coffee + a big knob of butter + a big slurp of double cream.

A good start to the day of you are on LCHF (Low Carb High Fat) as an eating plan.

Can't reject the addition of whisky or brandy for an evening drink, though. Probably not good first thing in the morning.
