It's not often we find ourselves global leaders in New Zealand (Hobbit films, making meth in car boots etc.) but because we don't really have much in the way of mining or oil drilling listings on the NZX (biggest commodity listings on the NZX have been soft commodities) and enjoy a falling currency tailwind the NZX has been the best performer globally so far in 2016 and from peak as measured by MSCI.

More interestingly a lot of the negative sentiment going forwards is actually about Australian companies that are dual listed and so mired in all that messy Australian hole digging business. Completely by accident we look brilliant (which is the best kind of brilliance because it didn't require us to expend any actual effort).

For all the junky software listings in the last few years we have actually done quite well. Did I catch this great wave? No, I let all my dividends etc. sit in a bank account this last year rather than reinvesting .

Although I note that one of the more ambitious listings, Inteuri education is now being investigated by the serious fraud office.
