Re: UKVPN - poor service recently

Windows 7 does a much better job than XP at specifying an appropriate TCP window size. An incorrect TCP window size really affects throughput as latency increases.
There are registry tweaks and...

Re: Dual Citizenship lost at 18?

Hi FB. I share the same view as MarylandNed. With 2yr and 3yr old US citizen kids born to UK citizen parents, I'm interested in this subject. Please explain your comment so I can be better...

Re: new Arizona illegal immigration enforcement law

I agree, it wouldn't be good for the child to have no citizenship anywhere.

I wanted to add to my original post, but I'll add it here instead, I support SB1070, but one of the trickiest scenarios...

Re: new Arizona illegal immigration enforcement law

I haven't read exactly what he proposes, but if it is along the lines of the newborn child is a legal citizen only if at least one parent is legal, then I'm all for it. If that takes an amendment to...

Re: new Arizona illegal immigration enforcement law

The wording has recently been changed, the word 'solely' has been removed.

Re: Illegal Immigrants

I had the exterior of my house painted once. Originally spoke with a guy with an American accent, explained what I needed done, he explained what they'd do, price etc. When the workers turned up,...

Re: new Arizona illegal immigration enforcement law

Thanks FB, I did a quick search on 'ten foot pole', a lot of results came back, I'll have a read through.
I was hoping for a link to an official source though, I'll keep looking as well. I'm having...

Re: new Arizona illegal immigration enforcement law

That's really bizarre. I'm really interested in this whole arena, could you provide a link so I can read up on that? I still can't find anything myself.
I'm trying to relate this to my own...

Re: new Arizona illegal immigration enforcement law

I don't understand, if it is perfectly legal, then that person wouldn't be an illegal immigrant? Would they be in some kind of limbo land that is not illegal or legal during the process you...

Re: new Arizona illegal immigration enforcement law

Sorry, I missed it, I went back and read it. Yes, that wouldn't help things. I was thinking more of licenses being created in someone's house.

Re: new Arizona illegal immigration enforcement law

I'm not up on the latest technology in this area, but wouldn't the officer check out the license is authentic by checking it against the issuing database? A forgery may look real, but won't it stand...

Re: new Arizona illegal immigration enforcement law

It's possible to find other cases involving other laws where officials made mistakes, doesn't make those laws bad either. There will always be mistakes. Nothing is perfect.

Agreed.

Re: new Arizona illegal immigration enforcement law

I'm sure they'll be mistakes with legal immigrants being detained incorrectly, might even be me, but this happens with other laws too. The vast majority arrested will be illegal.

Re: new Arizona illegal immigration enforcement law

I'd like to think the officer would try a bit harder than that, doesn't sound like probable cause to me. I trust that the training that they will receive will help them.

I think it is...

Re: new Arizona illegal immigration enforcement law

Ah, I see the difference now, thanks for pointing that out.

If this law allows arresting people on reasonable suspicion of being an illegal immigrant, that would be going against how people are...

Re: new Arizona illegal immigration enforcement law

Hi FB...I feel like I'm missing the point of your question, but to the best of my knowledge my immigration status is legal and I have no problem showing an official my green card.

Re: new Arizona illegal immigration enforcement law

I thought a new state law was introduced a couple of years ago to do just that. Is it working? I don't really hear much about it on the news anymore. I thought it was a great step in the right...

Re: new Arizona illegal immigration enforcement law

Aren't people arrested on reasonable suspicion of crimes all the time? Isn't that normally what happens, the police suspect someone of committing a crime, and arrest them?

Regarding how does an...

I support the new law.

As someone who has gone through significant stress and worry about jumping through the hoops to obtain a L2 visa, extend it, keep my job during the recession so not to get...

I'm not sure if I've understood your post correctly, but my understanding is that medical insurance premium costs CAN be deducted if not paid by the employer. It is subject to a calculation based on...

Re: Tips, should I?

Say I'm sitting at the bar, and pint is $3 - $4, if I tip $1 for every drink, that is a tip of between 25% and 33%, much higher than the norm for a waitress/waiter, that seems unfair on the...

Re: Tips, should I?

...and how much to tip a bartender?

I normally tip between 15% and 20%, 15% for good normal service, 20% for very good service, but should I tip a bartender the same percentage, and why?

A...
