Re: Bus Drivers!

They are supposed be introducing controls at the airport. The only legal ones are the ones at the desk outside the arrivals hall. I take taxis here quite regularly, City Taxi is good. My friends...

Re: End of Liberal Hungary?

Whilst self sufficiency may be an option in rural areas it is obviously not an alternative in Budapest. My bins are raked through every day. There are shacks lived in by homeless people at the...

Re: End of Liberal Hungary?

Watch and learn (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-16522848). Although why the BBC has only just now got the bit between it's teeth I will leave for another day...

Re: End of Liberal Hungary?

Yes it is. The Government has no respect for the ordinary checks and balances needed in a modern democratic state. This together with the dire economic situation has had an affect on the Country's...

Re: Solar Panels

The cost of buying the kit for a solar hot water system here is much, much cheaper than in the UK. With the amount of sunshine here the cost would be recouped very quickly. I do not know about...

Re: Is horse meat traditional Hungarian cuisine?

I have found salami made from horse in Budapest. It is quite common here- have not bought any though. I am not too fond of Hungarian salami and am not really about to try a new variety.:)

Re: Is horse meat traditional Hungarian cuisine?

Don't think so. Given the traditional attachment to horses I would doubt it. Never seen it on a menu. Of course I stand to be corrected. Did you try some?

Re: Heatwave

Hot. Temperatures in Budapest have broken an 87 year record. It was up to 35.9 o C yesterday. It was 38 o C in Szeged. I can tell you I was baking at 35.9 degrees in Budapest- glad that I was not...

Re: Hungary Time Line

Useful yes, but very lame when it comes to the Media Law. But then Nick Thorpe (the BBC Hungary correspondent) is a bit biased. The stuff that never gets reported in the BBC about Hungary is...

If you want to do something a little different I would recommend a trip on the Children's Railway in Budapest. You go on a lovely journey through the Buda hills- the railway (NOT the driver!) is...
