Re: Moving to SA from UK

Is he still a South African citizen? If so, you can get an accompanying spouse visa. If you’re married this is easier (but still possible if you can prove you have been cohabiting). I first moved...

Re: Help needed urgently

Right - not great news, but.....he will need a valid passport to get out of SA - but he will also need a valid passport to get into the UK. If he doesn’t have a valid UK passport he will need to...

Re: Suggestions please for people/firms who can Crate and ship equipment from S.A to

The biggest and best logistics firm in SA is DHL - I know they would be able to do this, but I’d assume you’d want sea freight as it would be much cheaper. I used K&N to move some heavy stuff to the...

Re: South Africa visa requirements

I went to SA on an accompanying spouse visa back in 2007 and provided no information - but now VFS do all the visa applications on behalf of home affairs, you’re kinda screwed. Unfortunately what...

Re: Anyone taken a car to South Africa recently ?

Well, you now have 3 threads running on the same topic. Not sure why - I’m pretty sure the advice given on the other thread was / is the best you’re going to get on here. Can you keep everything in...

Re: Returning SA Citizec - Car issue to take or not

Isn’t it duty free if you have owned it for more than 12 months?

The cost of cars in SA is very high, driven by weak rand and higher interest rates....

Re: Pay for a house from UK bought in SA

You can take R5m out of the country a year based on exchange controls (per person, so in theory you could take R10m as a couple. Less capital gains tax etc (you - in theory - need a tax clearance...

Re: Registering childs birth in South Africa

Hi - slightly different, but my son’s passport is expiring so we called Home Affairs in London. They said doing this was easy - send a stamped addressed envelope and they’ll send back a form. Fill in...

Re: International Parcels South Africa

Anyone but the post office! DHL are about the best - but it won't be cheap. Check first as some stuff is banned from being transported by courier, and if you're paying cash (so not a DHL account...

Re: documents/paperwork

Yup, a tax clearance certificate is essential - and let SARS know you will be out of the country. Also make sure any bank accounts are closed as it will be hard to sort out any fraudulent activity...

Re: Visa when already in SA

It'll mean a trip to Home Affairs in Jo'burg, but you should go for an accompanying spouse visa if your husband is a Saffa. As long as you have marriage certificates (unabridged and original) and a...

Alright folks, calm down.

If you disagree with someone, that's fine. But Africa is a complex and changing place - posting comments of a personal nature doesn't wash here, so let's keep it above...

Re: Visas (again!) Dazed and confused

Hi Suzie

No worries, I'm afraid this is a lonely old part of British Expats, Africa doesn't hold the appeal it once did.

I've been away from there for 4 years, so am a little out of date on the...

Re: Advice for moving to durban

It may have changed, but was definitely a year in 2015.

If you buy from a main dealer you'll be ok. Consumers are well protected in SA. An MOT in the U.K. is easy to obtain, so your chances of...

Crown relocations did mine and they were ace.

You can't ship a car unless it's fully paid off and you've owned it for a year. Just something to consider... as Pablo says, use the weak rand and buy...

Re: Contemplating moving to South Africa

The Zimbabwe connection won't help at all. You need an SA visa (either PR or a work permit). You won't be able to get either without a firm job offer before you go, if you turn up on a tourist visa...

Re: Criminality check

Wow. Good question. I can only imagine 2 ways - neither will be pretty.

One is to go to the SA embassy in Whitehall and see if they can do this for you (it'll take ages, so be prepared) or the old...
