Re: Should I move to Canada or Not?

Many people we know who live in Edmonton want to leave because it's gone downhill so much in the last few years. I used to like going there, but now I try to avoid it.

Back on the OP's question,...

Re: Citizenship

I don't know about citizenship applications, but Canadian Federal bureaucracy has gone haywire since 2019. There doesn't seem to be any rational reason as to why some people might take months or...

Re: Cost of Living

We always put bread in the freezer unless we plan to eat it in the next few days. It's a bad idea to leave the bread in there for too long or it gets soggy when defrosted, but add some margarine or...

Re: Coronavirus

Except we now know that the early days of the virus were September and October 2019, when nothing out of the ordinary was being done. By November 2019 some medical folks in Italy had begun to notice...

Re: real estate prices in Canada sustainable?

Doesn't seem to be making much difference here in Saskatoon due to relatively low prices and tight housing supply, but there are regular price reductions in the acreages that are on my watchlist. In...

Re: Coronavirus

Medical researchers knew by late 2021 that any protection the vaccines provided lasted at most 2-3 months. At least in the general population; it might have been more effective in vulnerable groups,...

God lord, it feels like I've been here forever

Haven't posted here in a while, but though I'd drop in and see what's going on.

This summer I passed fifteen years in Saskatoon and ten years as a citizen. I really don't know where all the time...

Re: Coronavirus

And now that there's increasing research into their effectiveness, it's looking like none made much difference in the short term either.

In fact, now they're testing old stored nasal swabs and...

Re: PM Boris

The British government appears to be the one trying to start a war with Iran. I honestly don't know what Trump thinks he's doing, but so far he's avoided every opportunity he's been offered to bomb...

Not a fan of Boris, but it's sure to be amusing.

Re: Saudi Arabia

And how do you think Trudeau (or, indeed, pretty much any modern politician) would cope in a world where life was 'nasty, brutish and short?'

Since WWII, we've lived through an economic summer,...

Re: Seatac plane

Seriously, there are 'club' equivalents for aircraft. But ground staff are likely to need access to controls when moving them around. Maybe not to start the engines, though.

Or there's the...

Re: Saudi Arabia

Most policies on both left and right were developed during the post-WWII era, one of the easiest periods of human history, where there was enough ruin left in the system that you could afford a lot...

Re: Saudi Arabia

With whom?

Who's going to change their vote because Trudeau says bad things about Saudi Arabia?

Re: Saudi Arabia

I'm guessing in a week or two Trudeau will be putting on a Lawrence of Arabia costume and playing make up with the Saudis.

Re: Refugees from the USA

Seriously, I think Trudeau will go down in history as the man who broke Canada. I can easily see Quebec, Alberta and Saskatchewan leaving in the next twenty years as a result of his policies.

Re: Refugees from the USA

As others have pointed out, I didn't say that. But the only legitimate refugees arriving in Canada across the border from the US would have to be fleeing persecution in America, which probably...

Re: Refugees from the USA

No-one's saying they shouldn't be able to apply for PR and wait years, as we did.

But refugees are supposed to be fleeing persecution in the country they're coming from. Which means that pretty...

Re: Refugees from the USA

Doesn't really seem like a policy that will go down too well in a country with as many immigrants as Canada. I saw an article about an anti-refugee protest in Quebec by Asian immigrants a while back,...

Re: Is anyone techy? Data usage woes

Yeah, make sure you have ad-blockers installed. Now so many sites want to have video ads on their pages, those are all going to add up.

Otherwise, the only thing I might do that would add up to...

Re: Food differences (i.e. where's the bacon?)

Superstore used to have 'Wiltshire-style bacon', but it seems to have disappeared, at least in our store.

Re: Us goods and travel boycott

I'm guessing trucks will be one of the first driving markets to go autonomous, at least for the long drives between cities. Though they'll probably need humans on board for the first few years to...

Re: Us goods and travel boycott

Yes, we generally buy local where we can anyway.

As for aluminium, America produced 3-4x as much aluminium only a few years ago. I've no idea what condition those smelters are in, but I suspect...

Re: Us goods and travel boycott

No plans to go to America any time soon, but there's no way I'm going to be able to stop buying US products when so many things aren't made in Canada at all.

Roll on the home 3D metal printers...
