No, a double taxation treaty doesn't affect your liability to UK tax. A double taxation treaty merely prevents you from paying MORE tax than you otherwise would have if you were working in the UK.

Unfortunately you are fully liable for UK tax on your salary in this situation. You can only escape UK tax either by:

This is a good tip!! So I get my employer to write a letter saying that I am allowed to buy a car, take this to the police and pursuade them to give me an authority letter to buy an SUV on the basis...

I'm planning to go away over the Hajj break (late October to early nov) but I see flights are mostly already full (eg the only available flights to Italy seem to take 25 hrs plus....which is insane)...
