Re: Passport Renewal Does not Require Countersignatory

I have to say that the UK online system was brilliant. I renewed my daughters passport earlier this year and it was so quick and easy, with great tracking provided along the process. Took the picture...

Re: Cellphone Advice Please!

Maybe look at Google Fi. I'm pretty sure there are things you can do to have multiple numbers ring to the same account and because it's Fi, data is included in the plan at regular prices, calling...

Re: Lease Car

You should be able to lease for whatever period of time you want. In general, 36 months leases are going to be the best price but you might get a good deal on a 39 month lease if there is a regular...

Re: Moving my Business to USA

It doesn't really sound like you have any plans that would contribute to society and add to the community. The business idea you have won't add anything, it doesn't even sound particularly viable as...

Re: With how many months to go do you renew your US passport?

Same here, I think exactly the same number of days. Definitely faster than the 4-6 weeks they quote for standard processing, not sure where the 9 months originally quoted came from. You can renew at...

Re: Health Insurance choices 2019

My premium, deductible and out of pocket isn't changing for 2019, but they removed the vision benefit that was part of the medical plan before so if I want to pick that up, it'll be an extra $5 and...

Re: Diabetes care in the US (vs the UK)

It can be expensive. I use about three vials of humalog a month which costs roughly $300 a vial without insurance. Insurance will affect that, you may have a copay or a deductible. I have a...

Re: Hamilton the musical

I saw it on Broadway, thought it was shite. My wife loves it, saw it on Broadway twice and wants to go again this summer when the tour comes through.

Re: Informed delivery service from USPS

But it has your name and address on each piece of mail. Easily enough info to get your drivers license info, email addresses, social security number, work info and a host of other things.

Re: Local Politics

Three seats, one incumbent (the other two current members are not running again) and a total of 9 candidates, including the old mayor.

Re: Local Politics

Fair enough. It's non-partisan so theoretically there are no sides, although that is probably more on paper than reality. I also know the mayor and council president, the other two current council...

Local Politics

A couple of weeks ago I filed a nominating petition to run for a position on city council so now I have to get my campaign running. I believe that there are a few people here who have done similar...

Re: Disability Insurance - Do You?

I've always taken short and long term. Short is more expensive but still not a lot. My current employer takes it after taxes so the payout is tax free so the 60% gets quite close to normal after tax...

Re: Claiming back VAT

Maybe that was the same, it's been a while! I thought they took the paperwork but they could easily have given it back for me to post.

Re: Claiming back VAT

I've done VAT refunds multiple times in the past, but not for many years. I also handled most of the initial VAT paperwork for a store I used to work at in the UK. It's pretty straightforward but,...

Re: Fax machines

They exist. They don't tie into a pharmacy network though, they tie in to an e-prescription service. I'm not familiar with the veterinary side of it but I know that Surescripts, which is the giant...

Re: Fax machines

This is all totally irrelevant. Fax is legally secure, email is not unless it's a secure system like Zixmail. At least in healthcare. It's a little more complicated than that but in general that...

Re: Mobile phones and sims question Georgia?

The actual phone bill is always between $22 and $23, the rest is phone financing, optional insurance and tax.

Re: Mobile phones and sims question Georgia?

My Fi bill this month was a few cents over $7 because I got a credit because my charger went wonky. Normally I pay about $2.50-$3.00 a month in data, $20 for the phone plan and a few dollars for...

This is true, although I have heard that it really does work with other devices. I've not tried it out but people have said they have put the SIM in iPhones and non Nexus/Pixel officially supported...

Then why would you even think you would go on two individual policies? Almost certainly you will save a significant amount of money on premiums and deductibles by being on the same plan. Even if you...

Re: Kettles never last

Weird, ours is a little over 13 years old and still going strong. 3 or 4 years ago I thought it was broken because it wouldn't turn on, but I left it for a day and it started working again. Don't...
