Re: Claiming CPP in the UK from Canada

There is no minimum time of residency in Canada required in order to collect CPP if you have worked in Canada and made contributions. The Old Age Security portion of the pension requires a minimum...

Re: COVID19

We were reasonably well stocked up to begin with as I've always made a point of filling the cupboards when I've had access to auto transport but the loo roll situation is starting to get me a bit...

Re: Which English city should I live in?

Newcastle.

Ok, I'm biased, I live about10 miles west in the beautiful Tyne Valley and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. I am totally in awe of Northumberland every time I step out the front...

Re: Newcastle upon tyne Outer areas

We moved to Prudhoe which is located on the south bank of the Tyne Valley three years ago and we love it. Newcastle city centre is a 20-minute train journey away, a bus ride will take you 40 minutes....

Re: Those intangibles, the things you miss

Now that's my idea of how to spend a Sunday morning! We were out back in a nice shady corner before it got to hot; looking north over the Tyne Valley there's a lot of haze and a faint scent of...

Re: Those intangibles, the things you miss

Is it just me or are the blackberries early this year? I noticed them starting to ripen nicely in some of the hedgerows around here just the other day. There's a public footpath up the side of the...

Re: Those intangibles, the things you miss

I'm guessing you're about the same age I was when I re-connected with my own wonderful boy from long ago. I emigrated to Canada as a child and lived there 45 years before returning. I experienced...

Re: Want to take US washer dryer back to UK - will it be feasible? worth it?

I wouldn't recommend shipping those appliances from the states. We bought an LG condenser dryer when I came back to the UK 8 years ago and a matching washing machine a couple of years later. Dryer...

Re: Thinking of moving back to the u.k

You're wise to wait out your citizenship. From a kid's point of view, I think everyone is different and you can't always predict how a child will cope with a move like this. Having said that, I...

Re: Moving back to uk from Canada problems?

Re: Why did I not love this country before???????

We loved Folkestone; that's where we lived (myself for 18 months) when I first returned to England. At the time (2011/2012) we paid £625/month (council tax band C) for a big 2-bedroom Victorian flat...

Re: Current temp where you are in the uk

After the grass was cut, we settled for getting tipsy in the back garden with some wine I'd forgotten about. Nothing like the smell of freshly cut grass and a fabulous view

Re: Ten days back...observations.

I think a few of us have had this problem after coming back so it's worth keeping in mind when we're tempted to go mad in the bakery/farm shop/chippy after going so long without the yummy stuff. My...

This is our neighbour "Old Tom". He's a retired gent these days (30+ years old) and lives in the field behind our garden in Northumberland. I don't think he's too happy about all this snow we've...

Re: Finally going home

We lived in Folkestone when I first returned, I was there for about 18 months but moved for work. Those benches were made for a good book or a knitting project. Enjoy the cafe :)
