Re: Netflix

With the UnoTelly DNS service you can chose which country Netflix thinks it is coming from. Sometimes I have found films released on Netflix Brazil earlier than on the US site, but the downside is...

Re: CHANGES TO BRITISH PASSPORT SERVICES IN THE USA

Does this mean they will be much stricter on enforcing the passport photograph rules?

I've been reading a thread http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=784653 on that subject, but it...

Re: please help!?!

Should you choose not to get married, then you should also make sure your partner's health insurance plan (employer provided) will cover you and your daughter too.

Re: Downsides of Green Card?

It's unclear to me that his employer actually knows. Is that possible? I assume he could skip PERM being an L1 (executive) but would the company have sponsored the I-140?

Re: Downsides of Green Card?

I have an old friend who got transferred to the US on an L1 with his family. They really like it here and want to stay, plus their teenage kids are in the US school system now.
But his employer...

Re: VPNs for Samsung Tablets

Why not use a DNS based one such as UnoTelly ($5 per month) ? No software needs to be installed, just point your DNS to their servers.
I have been very happy with it so far.

Re: ConfusedBritGirl's questions on moving to USA

That will make things simpler and congratulations in advance ;)

You should also make sure his company's medical policy will include you too and make sure there are no 1st year exceptions. We once...

Re: ConfusedBritGirl's questions on moving to USA

Yes I thought so. Oh well it's almost Valentines Day! I had a colleague who married his long term partner so she could join him in the US office on a H1B/H4 followed by a GC.

Not a very romantic...

Re: ConfusedBritGirl's questions on moving to USA

We received our Green Cards in Jan 2013, approximately 1 year after the company started the process. We arrived on a H1B in Oct 2010. There weren't many hitches or delays, so I doubt you can do it...

Re: Dinner is Served and Tesco has a winner!

Sorry can't resist one more Tesco horsey joke ...

A man buys a burger in the Tesco cafe, and the server asks "Would you like anything on your burger sir?"
Man replies, "Yes please, put me down...

Re: ConfusedBritGirl's questions on moving to USA

Yes, unless he has a BSc + 5 years experience or a Masters then even having got through the GC application processes (PWD, PERM, I140) the EB3-ROW AOS category is a 6 year wait. So you could be...

Re: Order of processing I485/I140/I131/I765

Thankfully we only had to do the Biometrics once for each family member. The AP/EAD combo card arrived a few days before our GCs were issued.
Got the physical Green Cards yesterday; they even have...

Re: H4 Visa - Greencard (EAD)

Yes it took us about 1 year to get the GCs on EB2-ROW. EAD came about 1 week before GC, so was not really necessary.

Being married is probably the first thing you should consider. I don't know...

Re: GC: Re-entry permit and 1 year residency rule

My lawyer is currently on vacation so I'm just using the document they supplied with my shiny new Green Cards. She did mention I need to come and talk to her about my son's plans to study in the UK.

Re: GC: Re-entry permit and 1 year residency rule

To be fair to my company's 3rd party lawyers, I have only read their LPR memo and the N-470 was mentioned under the Citizenship section. I mistakenly thought that was the same as the re-entry permit....

Re: GC: Re-entry permit and 1 year residency rule

Ok thanks, the lawyer only mentioned the N-470 and not the I-131 in their AOS document. I had assumed that was what the N-470 was for. Sorry for the confusion.

But by the time he graduates he will...

GC: Re-entry permit and 1 year residency rule

We just received our Green Cards - yippee! But our eldest son (17, junior at HS) wants to go to the UK to study for a degree.
So we were thinking of getting him to file an N-470 form before leaving...

Re: ITIN process for children

Interesting, Pete originally included them but then removed them as he said they were not allowed as dependents on the 1040NR. The tax refund difference was significant. That was for 2010. I'll ask...

I've been using Pete Newton to file my US taxes since we arrived and we declare our 4 kids on the forms. But in our first year (October entry) they were not counted/allowed and so we only applied for...

Re: H1B Visa

@rkm_2013 I would imagine it will be fine with US Immigration. Taxation is another matter, but if you are paid by the UK office then it should be obvious up until the point you transfer over.

Re: H1-B leading to a Green Card

We moved to the USA in Oct 2010 on a H1B and have just received our Green Cards this weekend.
So it can be done fairly quickly, it was around 1 year for us from start to finish. I applied in the...

Re: ITIN process for children

We just submitted the forms with our tax return, I think we supplied notarized copies of the identity documents to go with it.

Re: Dual Citizenship

I also assume that if you are living in the UK most of the time (e.g. > 183 days per year) then you won't have to pay any tax to the IRS under the dual taxation rules?

Re: H1B to Green Card

Thanks!
Yes only around 200 days from the PERM filing to the GCs being issued which is pretty good.
The PERM was started back in Dec 2011, so around about 1 year altogether.

Next task will be...

Re: H1B to Green Card

I had trouble too as 3 of my previous employers are now defunct. Another one was a multi-national and when I requested my former manager sign the experience letter, I got a standard HR response...
