Re: Transferwise, XE or other?

Yet another vote for Transferwise. Been using them regularly for years and very easy to use. Just transferred $2000 from my US bank account to my Singaporean one and the funds had arrived and were...

Re: Who else is concerned about trip to UK for Christmas with family?

I guess it doesn't matter, as the goal here is not to avoid getting caught but instead to avoid causing harm to others.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Sometimes can be good to get some closure.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

To be honest I'm not currently watching things quite as closely as I used to, but will definitely report back if I see anything. I mostly keep up by following a few specialist travel bloggers on...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I'm sitting on just shy of 160k so interested in developments too. Could convert to Hilton at 2:3 but don't feel ready to pull that trigger yet.

Re: My darkest hour

There’s a fairly in-depth analysis here (https://britishexpats.com/forum/trailer-park-96/houston-shit-not-607620/).

Re: GCH married to USC returning after 3-year absence

Hi everyone

It's been a while since I last posted. During the latter part of 2019 we tried to get some input from the local embassy in Singapore who told us that we needed to apply for a new...

Re: Flights US to UK

I just read a travel blogger reporting that LHR is considering consolidating into T2 and 5.

Re: Flights US to UK

Assume it's this airline? (Looks like the only one that flies direct).

Looking at their website they've stopped selling tickets...

Re: GCH married to USC returning after 3-year absence

We've been filing both state and federal taxes. No, our relocation wasn't mandated by the government. She hasn't been to the US since we left in January last year.

Re: GCH married to USC returning after 3-year absence

Thanks. Do you know how quickly she would have to use (i.e. re-enter the US) it once approved? We need to remain in Singapore for another 15 months with my job.

This is confusing as it's...

Re: GCH married to USC returning after 3-year absence

If Rete's idea about trying for a returning resident visa doesn't work due to it being our choice to remain outside of the US to allow for my 3-year fixed term work assignment, then we will have to...

Re: GCH married to USC returning after 3-year absence

We never obtained a re-entry permit in the first place, so I don't know whether this invalidates the rest of the idea. We moved here for business for a 3-year term. At the time we didn't know where...

Re: GCH married to USC returning after 3-year absence

Ok so just ignore that she's ever been a PR and apply from new then. We won't want the hassle of the "turn up and see" approach.

GCH married to USC returning after 3-year absence

I'd be grateful if anyone could share experiences or informed advice about my family's situation.

After 10+ years living in the US we moved to Singapore for a 3-year stint that will finish at the...

Re: Lounge access JFK

General view on FlyerTalk is that this is possible at JFK, with the only reports I could find to the contrary (with an admittedly short search) involving T1.

Re: BA: LHR to Charleston, SC

You have to pay extra for sloppy shit on BA nowadays. It used to be included.

Re: non vs. none

What you have highlighted is correct. I also usually hyphenate in this scenario, so “non-resident”, but I don’t think it needs the hyphen to render it correct.

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

I have, twice. Needed to get from Singapore to Budapest last June. Not much choice regarding award availability, but found SIN-LHR-BUD on BA and BUD-HEL-SIN on Finnair. By booking via AA I used far...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

No, I meant US (but also applies elsewhere) thanks to BA’s distance-based reward structure. Good explanation here:

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Nope. All programs have their sweet (and shitty) spots. BA’s sweet spots are mainly short flights (e.g. direct domestic US flights where the number of miles required can be much less than AA) or...

Re: Traveling cheaply and well using miles and points

Not completely true. If you use AA miles on BA routes you’ll also get fleeced.

Re: change a flight?

This. Really, this.

Which airline? A few have become allergic to short-checking in recent years but the majority are still ok if I’m not mistaken.
