Re: re-exchanging PT drivers licence back to UK

You send it to the DVLA and basically exchange it back - a far easier process than the other way around. You'll want to do it mega quick too, because car insurance gets very expensive when you have a...

Re: Any VPNs still work for BBC/ITV?

Not so, I'm afraid. iPlayer is already proactively blocking the IP ranges used by VPN providers (as is Netflix), so a UK IP is no guarantee of access. Hence the need to potentially keep changing...

Re: Any VPNs still work for BBC/ITV?

As BristolUK pointed out, there's no guarantee that a service working on one day will still be working the next. It's a cat and mouse game with VPNs and iPlayer, and it's the same with Netflix too. ...

Re: VPN - fines

I had to do some research on this. I personally don't think it worth the enormous risk of using VPN anymore and certainly not just for the sake of watching Eastenders. This was what I had to say...

Re: DID YOU KNOW?

Similarly, all through Spring in the UK they had the most amazing plump blueberries from Huelva in all the supermarkets at half the price of the very average ones sold in Portugal. Bizarre!

Financas Site: Where's my Bill?

Hi all,

I've got the final figure for our 2014 IRS and can access the "DEMONSTRAÇÃO DE LIQUIDAÇÃO DE IRS" via the online portal.

However, I'm sure in past years I could access a PDF of the...

Re: Barclays Bank Europe

Two issues are being confused here:

One is Barclays winding down and selling Barclays Portugal.

The other is talk of Barclays UK closing down the UK accounts of expats if they have less that...

Re: DID YOU KNOW?

I don't get this either. If people want crappy bread they can get Portuguese crappy bread anyway (i.e. Bimbo etc.) Yet frozen Kingsmill and the like is one of the biggest sellers in the English shops.

Re: Need car insurance and breakdown cover

In fairness, we've had good experiences with IBEX and their knowledge of private healthcare was second to none.

That said, when it came to renewing our PT car insurance they couldn't beat our...

Re: Vanners Beware,

I rarely agree with EMR but the situation in Manta Rota used to wind me right up. Dozens of campers parked directly alongside "no camping or caravan" signs (in multiple languages), people relieving...

Re: State health care

Have to say this pretty much mirrors our experience in Tavira, which included a pregnancy. Half-day (or longer) waits were not unusual either, nor was being told the assigned doctor was "on holiday"...

Re: consequences of foreign licence??

That's all good until you want to hire a car (or drive) in another country. Our exchange took nearly a year.

Re: I want fried fish and chips.

You'll never find any suitable fish for fish and chips in the supermarket, you need to go to a fish market. Pescada in a thin soggy batter is the closest thing you'll get in a Portuguese takeaway and...

Re: What do you miss from the UK?

Ukkram, I'm sure you should be able to find nice little empadas de galinha (chicken pies) and marendas (cheese and ham). They're ubiquitous all over Portugal.

No comparison to the pastry heaven...
