Re: Saudi Contract Change

Hello Tarzansgirl

This is a good position to be in - 2 job offers.
I would say it is safer to go with the first employer who has started making visa arrangements. If you back out now, they could...

Re: Doha finance job

Hello RBBanner

Many congratulations!
QAR 50k per month is excellent. Even better if the housing is on top of this.

You had mentioned you have no kids so school fees are not a factor.
You...

Re: Is this enough for Doha?

Hello

I have friends working in Doha in finance. They (albeit single) live like kings on 45-50 QAR per month. On 85k QAR - you can lead a life of ease and luxury.

Plus oil and gas - Qatar is...

Re: Doha finance job

One other thing. There is an interesting article on www.efinancialcareers.co.uk (also on their Gulf site) about bankers being stuck in limbo in hardship locations. It is all about Saudi Arabia.

Poignant and happy story

Hi

Am sure you all remember the terrible fire in the shopping mall in Qatar last year. Many people died - including several little children.

Re: Advice on financial services job situation

Hi

@Scot47: There has been a lot of activity over the past 2 years in Shariah compliant bonds and loans. These, "sukuk" bonds are structured so that interest is paid in a tangible form - say using...

Re: Advice on financial services job situation

Thanks for your help and advice Millhouse. Unfortunately I got nowhere with the interviews in Dubai. I am hoping the silence is due to Ramadan - but it is looking forlorn.

Am trying for internal...

Re: Advice on financial services job situation

Thank you very much for the reply Millhouse. I remember you work in this field too. I had gambled on DB being a good name on the CV.

It is a pincer movement between a dire economic crisis in the...

Advice on financial services job situation

Hello

I have been working in Riyadh since August 2011 for a German investment bank. This role is within Fixed Income valuations and product control - so middle office. It was a 2 year contract and...

Re: Lunch during Ramadan

Thank you very much Spartan53! Tried Khozama for lunch today - and it served food and drink throughout the day.

One funny aspect. I had to sit behind a black curtain at the table even though I...

Re: Lunch during Ramadan

Really envy all of you in Dubai during Ramadan. Here in Riyadh, the food shops are all shut throughout the day. There is absolutely nowhere to go if you don't fast. Even water!

Got to sneak and...

Also Prince Ahmed, the recently replaced Interior minister. Both in their seventies.

Hi Kat1829

You are really brave! I am about to head off to Riyadh for a contract role.

Would not recommend Saudi Arabia for a woman on her own. Especially for someone brought up in the West....

Re: Scumbag labour blighting the Corniche....

This is painful and sad, but Qatar is way more humane in this regard than Riyadh. Some of the (presumably local) commenters in the newspaper are sympathetic and understanding towards the immigrant...

Re: Doha to London Calling?

Definitely use the office phone for that. Especially if it is a 30 minute, "your call is important to us" job.

Joking apart - skype to a UK landline would probably be cheapest?

Re: will be worth it to Madina/KSA

Hi Chemist

13k SAR per month is only just higher than GBP 2,000 per month.
No way is it worth moving to Saudi for only a slight uplift.

A good rule of thumb in Saudi is that the package should...

Re: Job Offered based in Riyadh

Hi

I think you need a company as a sponsor or guarantor - to show proof of employment and cash flow. You can certainly apply on your own though.

What did you decide in the end? Just to emphasise a point, try and get onto a compound in Riyadh. I met a friend of mine working in Saudi who is back during the Ramadan lull.

He put...

Re: Job Offered based in Riyadh

SAR 40k for a full spec Tahoe? This is an annual lease right?

I was truly diddled then. Was paying SAR 56k (on a monthly basis) for a Toyota Prado in Riyadh.
