We recently renewed our PR cards. 3 out of 4 of them arrived at our home address by regular mail from Sydney processing - great. The card for our youngest child didn't arrive. Today I receive an...

Re: Bank account opening and proof of address

We used a Canadian PO Box service for opening a bank account with PC Financial as we knew we'd have temporary addresses for a few months.

Re: Choosing an area to live? How did you do it?

Following on from that, can I ask how did you go about choosing an area to live ?

BC was really the only option based on weather and recognition of nursing qualifications. Eventually narrowed it...

Re: Job offer from outside Canada

My hubby did, but he already had PR status and had previously been over and visited with the company. Think it's pretty unusual though.

Re: kamloops and kelowna

We live in Kelowna and I work in healthcare recruitment and my other half is a psych nurse. We visited Kamloops years ago but never considered it as a potential place to live but I hear nice things...

Re: Moving from Yorkshire to Kelowna

Hello from Kelowna. We also rented at Playa del Sol 2yrs ago, when we first moved here, it's a good location for the college. Best of luck with your move and feel free to PM me with any questions.

Re: Life in Kelowna

Think it will depend on the time of year that you rent there and the owners preference. I think lots of owners will happily rent for a longer period if it's September-May/June. We found the majority...

Re: Canadian stereotypes of Britain?

We live in Hobbit sized houses and drive around in Mini's.
It always rains.
We don't have decent dentists.
All we eat is fish and chips and drink beer.

Re: experiences with being home sick

I've been here 18mths too and was surprised how hard the first wee spell of homesickness was. Now I just treat myself and try not to lose perspective and it soon passes.

Vague invitations

Saw this on FB today and it reminded me of how much it is a pet hate of mine. Is it a canadian thing? I don't seem to remember anyone being so vague in the UK about making plans. Happens all the time...

Re: Canadian v British Education

So she's turning 5 in Feb next year, so she'd be starting kindergarten in Sept? We went through something similar last year when we moved over and both my kids ended up repeating a year, due to their...

Re: Studying in Canada to gain PR?

Not sure that signing up for courses (with likely very expensive international fees) that you aren't particularly interested in is the best plan.
Maybe the IEC route would be a good thing to allow...

Re: Life in Kelowna

I would imagine it would be hard to rent somewhere before you are physically here. Landlords maybe fairly sceptical about renting to someone they haven't actually met in person or done credit checks...

Proof of income when sponsoring parents?

I think I already know the answer to this, but I am hoping I might be wrong
Is income assessed only through CRA notices of assessment? Or is there another way to prove you meet the income...

Re: BC gov offers $40 per day to parents during strike

I'm no expert either on workbooks but if it's any help I picked up a Grade 5 Canadian curriculum workbook from Costco for $8.99 and the same book was in Chapters for $17. London drugs also had some...

Visiting the US from BC (Canadian PR)

Driving to the states from BC in a few weeks, not sure what we will need at the border? PR cards, UK passports anything else? Do we need to complete an ESTA? Anything else?

Survived year 1

Well I can't believe it's been a year since we arrived, it's flown by in some ways and really feels like a lifetime in other ways.

We were lucky that hubby had a permanent job to come to and he...
