Re: Non-resident spouse - tax filing

Generally if you are married you have no choice but to file as married, even if the spouse is nonresident. The main question will be is whether you should file joint or seperate returns- the...

Re: Tax Refund / IRS question

Glad to hear!

The IRS is definitely selecting more returns for further review before the refund is processed. This usually involves checking the withholdings reported by the employer and means...

Re: LLC with one partner being a non US resident

Re: LLC with one partner being a non US resident

From a tax perspective there's no issue with a partnership having a non-resident alien partner. The NRA partner will file a nonresident US tax return to report his/her share of the partnership...

Re: Explain US (California) taxes please!

Ian- that's a great rule of thumb - I usually tell my clients to use 35% (unless they live in NY, NJ, or CA in which case I might go to 40% just to be on the safe side) ;)

Re: UK Tax question

If you're not resident in the UK, but remain a UK or EU Citizen, then you are always entitled to your personal allowance. I'm not aware of any changes in this area.

Re: Entering UK pension on US 1040

Assuming the pension payments are taxable in the US (which they generally will be if you are a USC, LPR, or resident in the US for tax purposes), then they get reported on form 1040, line 16.

Re: UK resident working 3 months US, tax question

Generally, you will owe US tax on any income earned while you were here. You'll need to file a 1040-NR tax return at the end of the year to report the income and pay the tax. You'll also need to...

Re: Tax Rebate after emigrating

Just write to the tax office where you filed your P85 and explain the situation. Enclose the P45 copy, and a copy of the original P85. You should then be good to go!

Re: How to open the USA bank accout(debit card) for non-resident

I have a contact at HSBC who can open US accounts without a SSN. He can also get you a US credit card based on your UK credit history.

PM me if you would like me to forward his details.
