Re: Back in Scotland

You're in my old stomping ground - I used to live in Pencaitland, just up the road from the 'Burgh. I was back last year on holiday and had tears in my eyes driving round East Lothian, it's so...

Re: 40k in canada vs 50k in uk....what is better?

$40K in Canada is a fairly low salary and wouldn't go very far. GBP50K would give you considerably more purchasing power.

Re: Wanting to move back to N Ireland

That just makes it worse, you should know better. The only people I have ever seen wearing flak jackets in NI are police or military personnel. To insinuate that flak jackets are necessary for...

Re: Wanting to move back to N Ireland

As one born and raised there, I am very well aware. However, I have noted that it seems to be those who aren't Irish make more of a deal out of how to refer to the country than those who live there....

Re: Advice for family wanting to move to Ontario

You possibly need to look outside of Ontario and think about Manitoba - Winnipeg is a trucking hub due to it being the geographic centre of Canada and so close to the US border. Moving on the...

Re: Shipping some furniture and posessions from Canada to UK

Upakweship is a name that seems to come up often when discussing self-pack moving. However, as my shipper informed me when moving to Canada, customs may be more likely to open and check a container...

Re: Wanting to move back to N Ireland

Not at all - I've just been emailing with my cousin's wife, who was born and bred in "the south" and that's how she refers to her homeland!

Re: Wanting to move back to N Ireland

Quite an ignorant comment which was uncalled for.

Re: Colon Cancer Screening - DIY test

As one who has to suffer the indignity of a colonoscopy annually, I can def say the scope itself is the best bit. The prep, however, is a different matter entirely

Re: Back Three Weeks

Lovely to hear you're back and enjoying your new life in the old country. Norwich is a lovely city surrounded by beautiful countryside. If you do get a car, Southwold and Aldburgh are nice places to...

Re: I'm a Brit, get me out of here!

Indeed. I'm waiting to see how the election plays out - if the witch remains, then my hopes of moving back any time soon are pretty much toast.

Re: Tim Hortons to open first UK cafe in Glasgow

The Tim's part of RBI is headquartered in Oakville. RBI is jointly owned by 3G Capital (Brazilian investment company) and Berkshire Hathaway (American conglomerate).

Re: Tim Hortons to open first UK cafe in Glasgow

The funny thing is, tho, that Tim's isn't a Canadian-owned company any more.

Re: I'm a Brit, get me out of here!

I ended practising my profession when my son was born ... after 10 years of working in Canada, I was still only earning approx 65% of what I was earning when I left the UK in 2005.

Re: I'm a Brit, get me out of here!

Thanks Novo. I don't know how you lasted so many years in Canada, esp coming from the NE! I worked in Hexham many moons ago, such a lovely place.

Re: I'm a Brit, get me out of here!

I did contribute many years of my life to the operation of the country (NHS, military). I hardly call a desire to go to my place of birth and upbringing a "sense of entitlement"!

I have no desire...

Re: I'm a Brit, get me out of here!

I have lived elsewhere in Canada. Actually, if I had to live anywhere else in Canada, I would choose Winnipeg, to be nearer to family. Unfortunately, my husband's job can't transfer there.
I don't...

Re: Moving my cats to Ireland

Sedating a cat for a road trip is not dangerous if you ask your vet for advice and for a medication that is appropriate for the cat's weight - your vet is a professional and their advice is best....
