Re: The Cost of an Accidental Fall

If my Dad had been wealthy (and had private health insurance) he would have still been taken to the NHS emergency room. It is also extremelly likely he would have still had the operation at...

Re: The Cost of an Accidental Fall

Glad you are well covered Rete.

My Dad had a bad fall a couple of years ago and broke his hip, had a hip replacement, contracted MRSA, had the hip removed, has had all kinds of tests, care, spent...

Re: To tip or not to tip... or should it be banned?

As I previously said, I also prefered bartending. If I had known I could make 6 figures at it, I would have foregone paying over $'000s in education, and stayed doing that rather than putting up...

Re: To tip or not to tip... or should it be banned?

Just like no one is stopping you getting a job that pays a salary and benefits.

If you were in the UK, would you have expected to make a living out of tending a bar? You may work hard and longish...

Re: To tip or not to tip... or should it be banned?

When I was 18-21 I worked a day job in an office, and in a pub 4 nights a week on a night. The pub I worked in was a 'locals' pub, occassionally a local would buy me a drink, particularly if the pub...

Re: Moving to the US for 1-2 years - cars: buy used, or lease new

We bought our first car here for 'cash' and paid for it in full on our UK credit card, just called and told the credit card company in advance so it wasn't rejected.

Re: Movie Reviews

We were going to see it at the cinema, and then something came up at the last moment, and we didn't get chance again. So glad we didn't spend $40 on it.

Monsters University next weekend though, and...

Re: Movie Reviews

I came to post about that too, we watched it last night. What a load of tosh, and I hate the way they devoted so much time to putting in shitty 3D effects, with flowers opening and butterflies...

We've stayed at the Paris a couple of times. The rooms are lovely, and it has always been spotless, if you get a strip view room, you will get a great view of the Bellagio fountains and the Eiffel...

Re: Err, just cracked open an egg...

This is the one thing in the world that bugs my FIL the most. He used to run the logistics department for Asda. He points out the great lengths the supermarkets go to, to make sure produce arrives...

Re: Movie Reviews

Me too. I also liked the fact that Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan refused to say lots of the script, believing their characters wouldn't have talked so much. They just kept leaving long silences...

Re: What has pissed you off today

I had to have more attachments put on my teeth, this morning, for my Invisilign. They feel awful and my mouth still tastes of glue :frown:

Re: monotonously throwing a ball to each other.

We see all kinds of sports being played by kids in the fields here. It all seems to be heavily organized though, rather than a few kids getting together after school and kicking a ball around.

This...

Re: monotonously throwing a ball to each other.

Four Square is the craze in the playgrounds around here, that seems quite tedious too.

Re: Is the USA actually more expensive than the UK?

Renting here is extremely expensive. We still own our UK house and currently rent it out, the houses are of similar size, both are 4 bed and the garden is roughly the same size. The only real...
