That will be much harder once you are no longer a U.K. resident. Not necessarily impossible, but more difficult.

Since you are naturalised British, it would be strongly recommended to get your child a consular birth certificate. That acts as lifetime evidence of British citizenship, while a passport is not.

The law is quite clear that the child isn't going to be a South African citizen, so you are going to first get the child's birth certificate as normal, then get a British passport...

That's more likely in a jurisdiction with a real or perceived high risk of fraud. Less likely in the United States. Also, less likely for a renewal compared to a first passport application.

A late reply to this thread, but if someone acquired British citizenship automatically at birth, the birth certificates of the parents (plus marriage certificate, normally) should be sufficient...
