Re: 747: Over and out

It's better when the flight engineer leans forward and says "you've lost no. 5"

....and when you can reply " which side no. 5?"

(An old one but some truth in it!)

Re: Online deliveries?

Still waiting for the Fishpond delivery, and pretty sure it will never come. I've a claim in with Paypal. ProductReview.com.au has hundreds of very poor reviews of Fishpond, mainly warning that it's...

Re: Is this car worth a punt?

FWIW we've been Honda for decades (except I've just bought a different new car) - fantastic engineering, excellent construction and until recently good looking cars. (The newer ones have gone all...

Re: State pension exchange rates

Years ago Nationwide had NO commission on foreign purchases. (It was that policy that made me get a card - unfortunately I had just furnished our house in the USA using Barclaycard :( !)
Their...

Re: State pension exchange rates

You don't say if the UK state pension is your sole source of income. (If it is you're in trouble!).
Assuming your main income is otherwise, why not just have your state pension paid into a UK bank...

Re: Gumtree is it still available people

I must say that I have found Gumtree very useful.

We downsized recently and sold many items through Gumtree with very few teaser replies.

The best was recently when I sold the Honda CR-V I...

Re: Advice &/or tips on upcoming Sydney move in 2021

I'll second that.
There ARE good tradesmen, but finding them takes time. It's easy to say ask around, but if you are new to the area that's not straightforward since you don't know too many people....

Re: Online deliveries?

Like carrying an umbrella to make sure it doesn't rain, my OP seems to have done the trick! A few hours after starting the thread two of the outstanding parcels arrived!

Re: Online deliveries?

I certainly agree about China. I would hope - some hope - that the world's politicians will rather late come to realise what has been happening this last 30 years or so. I watched the Chinese...

Online deliveries?

Anyone experiencing very delayed deliveries? I have on order several items for Amazon and Fishponds, none of which have come in the timeframe they advised.
I know that the Covid hoax (I know it's a...

Re: MyGov Account

I would caution against trying to set up a MyGov account unless, as the previous post says, you have ALL the information they will require.
It's easy to get into an infinite loop, where it asks you...

Re: The world of automation

Not that much point in arguing the issue. I have no more knowledge than most of us on this except I've been following it for several decades - in fact I was a "subject" in TRRL, Bracknell, studies...

Re: The world of automation

Probably me, some time ago!

I would doubt that driverless cars are "about to trial" in London - or anywhere else for that matter.

If you mean "autonomous cars with a driver who is the...

Re: The world of automation

Absolutely! There's an enormous amount of hubris surrounding the driverless car industry.

There is a huge difference between a car that can drive itself ANYWHERE - across fields if necessary, or...

Re: The world of automation

Actually, autopilots are a lot smarter than your post implies - and that's quite a lot of the problem! They have so many modes and combinations of modes that when things start to get complicated...

Re: The world of automation

I agree about the fact checks, particularly in this case because there are so many assumptions made on both sides.

For example, do they take into account those who charge their EVs from their own...

Re: The world of automation

You must be delusional if you imagine that "remote handling" would ever be acceptable on public roads, with a traffic jam around a stranded truck and fistfights starting all over! In any case, those...

Re: The world of automation

I can't work out if you are being serious or not

Always the "once" and "maybe". It's one thing to have huge trucks running iron ore around on an opencast mine - but what happens when a truck...
