Hi vsuccess, yes visitor visa is required and the process is very quick..for me they just took 2 working days.

It's a registered post, you can collect it from your nearest post shop. Normally it takes 2 to 3 working days to reach perth

I would say, let him apply for whole family now itself and you and children can join later. Unlike PR, all family need not travel at a time.

I am on 457, which is due to expire on 1st of March. Though I have lodged 175(Non MODL) application 10 Months ago, I don't think CO will get assigned before mid of 2009 based on new processing rules...
