Re: Planespotting

I just heard on the news that the SW crew were grounded after landing. My guess is there are a couple of pilot jobs going at SW now.

Re: Planespotting

Unless they had the wrong airport ID loaded into the FMS, which is highly unlikely given the flight plans are pre-installed before flight, it's pretty hard to get the wrong airport. Standard Pt 121...

Re: Price of transatlantic flight.

I dunno about MCO but they are still flying B747-400's from MIA-LHR. Was on one in May. At least it's a direct flight and it had an upgraded VOD system.

The internal noise difference between the...

Re: Automated system means U.S Citizens now clear customs at Ohare in 5 minutes.

If you're gonna be there anyway you might as well take advantage of it.

Re: Automated system means U.S Citizens now clear customs at Ohare in 5 minutes.

I did just that in April last year. Went in through Gatwick on my US passport (just the usual questions asked) then renewed UK passport while there, same day in London for 135 UKP, the equivalent of...

Re: Let's talk about cars

It pays to be green. I did 30 miles this morning, used 2hrs of electric to recharge at a grand cost of $1 and I didn't contribute to global warming directly :) (smug mode on).

Re: Let's talk about cars

Elon Musk decided not to launch the Model X this year so they could concentrate on customer service and getting the Supercharger network expanded. One Supercharger in FL could well be ready as soon...

Re: Let's talk about cars

Yes and the first 1000 "Signature" series cars started rolling off the production line last June. Those all got delivered by end of last year. They've just started production on the European...

Re: Let's talk about cars

Here we go again...

"In the first three months of 2013, Tesla sold 4,750 sedans while Mercedes sold 3,077 of the S-class, BMW sold 2,338 of the 7-series and Audi sent 1,462 A8s out of the...

Re: Let's talk about cars

The first part of your statement is true but I'm sorry, I can't let the second part go. If you think 45 minutes to do a 90% charge, which Li-ion batteries prefer, on an 85Kw battery is a "long...

Re: Let's talk about cars

It's the only "overdeveloped golf cart" that got a Consumer Reports rating of 99 out of 100. It's the only car that's ever got that rating in the history of CR.

Since you seem so sure that it's...

Re: Let's talk about cars

Yes you are right BUT he didn't write that in his article. He highlighted the weaknesses from his self admitted "imprecise" notes and chose to lie about what actually happened. What he didn't know...

Re: Let's talk about cars

Tesla is a perfect example of a private business/Government partnership. Without the loan in 2009 arguably they might not have made it this far AND they've paid back the loan 9 years early.

I still remember my Elonex 486SX 25Mhz w/4Mb of RAM. That was 1993. About $2400 when adjusted for inflation today.

Re: Let's talk about cars

Yup. Gotta hand it to Elon Musk. He's really thought out the whole concept not just the cars. Us early adopters will be paving the way for future cheaper versions. A sort of socialized commercial...

Re: Let's talk about cars

The Volt hasn't sold as well as they had hoped. Who wants to spend $40k+ for a Chevy which isn't a Corvette and looks like the regular Cruze? No wonder they've just introduced a turbodiesel version...

Re: Let's talk about cars

I did say it won't happen overnight but there's only so much oil available in the world and much of the cheap and easy to get at stuff has already gone. Shale oil is a complex process and is likely...

Re: Let's talk about cars

I see. Well the average SUV sure has plenty of sheet metal in it so yes they are built like tanks compared to the Tesla which is mostly aluminium. That said the Tesla is nearly 4700lbs thanks to the...
