Re: Where next? - UK Citizen/NZ perm res living in New Zealand

Well, in the same frank and open ‘warts and all’ vein of above, none of which I disagree with by the way...... the U.K. is in a more parlous state than NZ!! At least we have space here. Oz has many...

Re: Emigrating Prison Officer

They are currently recruiting. I went through the rather elongated process to join back in 2017, I got offered a job but decided not to join because of the frankly parlous state of corrections then....

I don’t have a mortgage, just bills to pay for an average 150m2 home. I live in a small town. I live alone, am almost 65, I drive an older car. I have car, contents and buildings insurance. I have...

Re: Moving back to the UK with teenagers...

Totally experienced it. I do feel for you. I only have 5 friends here after 17 years. All five are from Europe and I made all those chums in my first 2 to 3 years of my 17 years here.

I have found...

Re: NZ or Aus

They are hugely different countries. I spent 3 months in Oz in 1990, have been here in NZ for 17 years. I have heard great things about Melbourne.

There is no doubt IMHO that NZ is descending into...

Re: We are moving to NZ - Please help advise us (NEWBIE stage)

Funnily enough I live in a dull town and from a social perspective my life is not that good here. However in other areas my life is dandy. When you are a little person like me life is a compromise....

Re: We are moving to NZ - Please help advise us (NEWBIE stage)

There is indeed a degree of truth in what you say. That said I have been here long enough to be able to see (from what I read and hear) that NZ did used to be, to a degree, the ‘land of milk and...

Re: We are moving to NZ - Please help advise us (NEWBIE stage)

I have been here 17 years in a relatively dull town in provincial NZ. I am quite happy with my life here, but my social life is not what it was in the U.K. as I have never really jelled with kiwis to...

Re: Palmerston North renting

PS Hokowhitu is a great area and proximate to the University. I would focus on that area.
And when you get here invest in a dehumidifier for your bedroom. They are worth their weight in gold and not...

I have been in Palmerston North since 2005. I know the Massey campus well here, I used to live next to it. It is a beautiful campus. Property Brokers are one of the biggest letting...

Indeed, my friend who is a U.K. expat has just drawn this paragraph in the article to my attention.

I still think it is unfair and it should be for residents arriving after a certain date in the...

Changes to NZ Super for residents

The powers to be are looking to change the time frame from 10 years residency to 20 to be eligible for NZ Super.

It appears it will affect all residents, no matter when they arrived here, if I...

Re: Taking teens from Scotland to NZ

Hi, all I can tell you is that bullying is a huge issue in NZ. Been here 15 years, previously spent 45 in the U.K. Bullying was not as wide spread in the U.K. IMHO. Here it seems to be prevalent in...

Re: Drivers License

Hi, so long as you do it within a year you only have to do a theory test. 30 or so multiple guess questions. I think you can get three wrong. Eye sight test too. Get it done at any AA or VTNZ shop.

Re: 29yo should I move from Oz to Oxford with dog & BF?

If I were you? From what you have written? Stay in Oz. If the man does not like that...find one that does. Relationships should be about compromise. You sound well sorted in Oz. Sounds like you have...
