My advice would be sooner rather than later. As you say year 9 is when GCSE options are chosen. Returning part way through year 8 would enable your son to re-adjust to UK schooling a little. ...

We were told they couldn't do a credit check as we had been out of the country (albeit for a shorter time than you) but we did have a print out of our equifax report which they looked at...

We have moved back to the UK from Canada (Ontario). Our move to Canada was rather a short one to say the least - 10.5 months in total.
We found that the cost of living - factoring in everything...

When we moved to Canada last summer my sons golf bag was free in addition to our suitcase allowances, checked in with our suitcases he was allowed upto 20kg in it, so we stuffed it with extra stuff...

We did a self pack container from Toronto to UK. Hired two guys from a local removal company at $90 per hour to pack the container for us - it took them 55 mins! We packed all our belongings...

Don't be too hard on yourself. I have returned from Canada after a whirlwind emigration, just 7 months there. Hubby is still out there finalising (or trying to) everything, should be back mid June....
