Is there anyone out there living in California who has had recent experience of obtaining an employer-sponsored green card? We wonder what the current time lag is between applying for PERM (after...

Re: USA vs UK

I would add that property tax in California is high, we cannot get decent bacon (too fatty) or beans (with brown sugar??), the cost of higher education is very high and motorists can be crazy.
On...

Re: Financial Aid & FAFSA but no Social Security No.

Yes, we did speak to one and are waiting for other acceptances (hopefully) in March. We were told no SSN = no aid but she might be considered for a merit scholarship for which FAFSA is not required...

Re: Financial Aid & FAFSA but no Social Security No.

Okay but students that live in the EU qualify for the lower rate and even the fees charged to those outside the EU are less than most US universities charge to thie own citizens. USC (admittedly...

Re: Financial Aid & FAFSA but no Social Security No.

Fair point, but the unis here go on about wanting to open doors to students with a diverse background, about it being a way of improving the dynamics etc. etc. and about not discriminating on the...

Financial Aid & FAFSA but no Social Security No.

Our 17-year old daughter has applied to several University of California campuses and we are sat here with the dreaded FAFSA form in front of us. We have tried (in vain) to get her a SSN - we were...

Re: Green card and adult child

[QUOTE=jumping doris;7572230]Very briefly, we were in a similar situation in that our eldest daughter could have reached 21 without a green card.
Being a student and a dependant doesn't count.

Re: Green card and adult child

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I will push my husband to contact a lawyer for advice on the best way forward.
What is interesting is that, like you, he should have been on an L1A rather than...

Re: Green card and adult child

I'm impressed you recognised the message. Yes, you are correct. We've been up to our eyes with tax returns and queries about that such that the visa query went on the back burner. I guess Id...

Green card and adult child

Hi folks
Does anyone know what the situation is if you apply for a Green card when your (adult) child is 19 and he turns 21 before a decision on the Green Card is given. Is he included if the Green...

Can student son aged 18 on L" apply for an EAD?

My question (which I cannot get a definitive answer to) is this: Can a student son at university in the UK but with an L2 visa (parent on L1) apply for an EAD so he can work during the long summer...

Re: Two visas on one passport?

Yes, we are hoping to stay in the USA by renewing the L1 visa that my husband is on and then applying for a green card. We have a UK and a US property. Our son, however, is at a UK university and...

Re: Two visas on one passport?

Thanks for the prompt reply. So I guess he will have to apply for a J1 now as we've just found out he cannot get an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) as child of an L1 holder.

Re: Virgin Atlantic or United?

We've flown Virgin many times with our 3 kids and chose it for the friendly cabin service (plenty of food and free alcoholic drinks) and entertainment programme. Providing that the ents programme is...

Re: 18-year old son/green card

Thank you very much for your helpful reply. From what you said, it sounds like we ought to get started. It seems harsh to exclude a dependent student child from the green card if they turn 21 just...

Re: 18-year old son/green card

He's actually on an L1B. Does this lengthen the process by much? I'm wondering if he ought to start the green card application very soon?
