From previous posts on this subject, it does appear that the method of application makes a difference to the length of time it takes - ie PNP, Skilled worker with job lined up etc.

We took ours personally last week - the CHC is only open for this on a Thursday afternoon between 2 and 3.30pm and you drop them one week and pick them up two Thursdays later. It was pretty painless...

I don't see any reason why you would have to close your UK account when you move to Canada - is no different from living in Uk and having Canadian account. I intend to have standing order payments...
