Re: Jubilee street party anyone?!

Fab! I'm glad you're celebrating too!

The 20 or so people I've invited are already in full steam-ahead planning mode! They're mentioning tombolas, Morris dancers, maypoles, Union flag shorts on...

Re: Living half here, half in the UK .. does anyone do this?

Thanks everyone.

You've made it more than obvious this is a lovely idea, but totally impractical. Only the very rich and famous are able to own and live in more than one country, and we're not in...

Re: Living half here, half in the UK .. does anyone do this?

Crikey

You're right, the healthcare here is a nightmare. When it goes right, it's great, but it's a minefield to negotiate, and even half the medical people get unstuck with all the...

Re: Living half here, half in the UK .. does anyone do this?

You would? Why?!

Genuine question as I'm trying to get as many positives in my head as I can as it's inevitable we'll end up there sooner rather than later.

All that I think about is rain,...

Re: Living half here, half in the UK .. does anyone do this?

Is that the COBRA healthcare package? We'd be the same if that's the case, but 18 months later we would then have to pay for our healthcare ... or go home.

If we were on the same page we would...

Re: Living half here, half in the UK .. does anyone do this?

How long does it take to become a USC?

There is so much more to this than just having a small property in both countries and popping over the pond once or twice a year

I'm sure...

Re: Living half here, half in the UK .. does anyone do this?

True, on both counts JG.

It's early days really, and I guess we should just wait and see what transpires with the work situation, but the thought of living back in the UK is filling me with dread....

Re: Living half here, half in the UK .. does anyone do this?

Good question JG, and one I don't know the exact answer to.

Buy travel insurance in the UK?!

Re: Living half here, half in the UK .. does anyone do this?

Hi Michael

Thanks for your response.

You're right - we're not USC, but we both have GCs. Tax is obviously something we'd need to seek advice on, and that could well be the crucial factor along...

Living half here, half in the UK .. does anyone do this?

Hi all

Remember me?! I'm sorry I've not posted in aaaaaaaaages .. life has sort of got in the way just a little bit, what with weddings and funerals and work and possible redundancy.

So, to...

Re: Cutco knives

Thanks for your reply.

I couldn't tell you the price of an individual knife as they were only selling sets.

They are expensive. Too expensive IMO, but a friend swears by them. Then again, she...

Cutco knives

Does anyone have any? Are they as good as they say they are?

We saw them today at a Home & Garden show, and while they *look* outstanding, are they? How good is their 'lifetime' guarantee. Do...

Re: Moving to Houston

Hi there

I'm in Cinco too. Moved here nearly 4 years ago (fark .. where has the time gone?!) and love it.

The first couple of months were very tough as I didn't know anyone, and we were...

Re: Deep fried turkeys

Oops! Sorry!

Well, you guys have sealed the deal as far as I'm concerned.

Cons:

*Frying (can't get my head around the frying part)
*Potential fire hazard
*Peanut oil (I'm...

Re: Deep fried turkeys

That makes perfect sense. I make a mean stuffing, and great gravy (both courtesy of Jamie O!)

Still, tasteless turkey vs me doing all the cooking. Hmm.:huh:

Re: Deep fried turkeys

That's what the husband keeps telling me guys at work are telling him. The skin gets deep fried, but the meat is juicy and tender. As long as you don't eat the skin, the meat has no more fat in it...

Deep fried turkeys

Has anyone either had one, or better still, bought a deep-fat frier and cooked one?

I have to say it sounds utterly disgusting to me, but my OH has been raving about it - so much so he's looked up...

Thanks for the links and ideas. I'm loving the idea of the City Pass and putting that to use.

Not so sure about the shopping,...

Re: Things to do alone in Atlanta

I reckon my nightlife took a tumble downhill just around 14 years ago, so it's not high on the agenda anymore! Thanks though lol
