Planning to visit UK from Saudi next week and searching for a company to use for the day 2 and 8 tests. However the prices are ridiculous, into the 100's of pounds for self test by post.

You are correct, you can get cheap luxury apartments outside of compounds, even renting a whole villa with a pool would work out cheaper than a apartment on a good compound.

I sent off for my sons passport 2 weeks ago via DHL from Saudi and still no acknowledgement from UKPA, although is has been signed for by them according to DHL. I am expecting a 2 month turnaround...

Nope, only 1 version. It just says that tickets can be purchased from Virgin Megastore branches. There is one in Riyadh Park if that is near where you work.

I can relate to this. Finding out where events are and getting hold of tickets, especially the embassy ones, is a somewhat of black art here. Its all about whom you know and your social circles.
