Re: Buying a rural property: when is a house a legal house?

As has been said here many times before...

Rent first. The money you spend on renting for a year will be money well spent.

You don't just get to know the local climate, customs, people, costs...

Re: Starting A Business

People rarely consider being an artist as being a business. Most don't even consider it work.

I gave up on Spain simply, because Police/authorities made it impossible for me to work in public...

Re: Travel with Spanish NIE

If a Spanish university has accepted you then surely they are the best people to ask for advice. They want your cash, they will help if they can.

Re: Social Security and Taxation Self Employed

In short...

That would be 28% of 70% of your declared net earnings. Then you can claim personal/family costs unrelated to any business activity. So, an average guess would be somewhere around 14%...

Re: Small van load from London to Granada... advice please

I did it this way...

Bought an old SWB Transit 2.5D on ebay for about €400. Insured it and drove down to Granada mostly on toll free roads over Three days - nice and slow. Slept in the van.

On...

Re: Simple numero contribuinte question?

OK. Thanks again.

I have budgeted for a full day of queuing and question asking tomorrow. I shall report back.

Seems many people posting on this forum are just turning around secondhand...

Re: Simple numero contribuinte question?

Thank you.

I'll ask more questions at the tax office Monday. I suspected it was similar to the UK with people being issued an 'emergency' number as a temporary measure. Tax office people in Lisbon...

Simple numero contribuinte question?

The tax office tell me I need either a formal UK address (driving licence for example), or I need to go to the town hall and pay €15 to register at a Portuguese address before being issued a number....

Re: Christmas/New Year break - Lisbon

One tip.

Many tourists miss this simply because it is up the hill. Very little public transport connections, except the legendary Nº28 (Golden) tram. If you don't mind walking up hill through...

Re: 'Cottage Industry', Worldwide postage from Galicia?

I often post 100cm x 8cm tubes to the USA from Spain and Portugal. Portugal PO charges are slightly more than in Spain (Spain just under €30, Portugal just over). A few years ago pricing changed from...

Re: Granada

I am possibly an exception. I am one of those artists who are prepared to work. I also know how to sell - a skill fundamentally much more important than your artistic ability.

But, yep - you don't...

Re: Granada

I have known many people who have worked for Northgate. Mostly telesales. They seem to have a very high staff turnover. Of all the British people I know who have worked for them, just one remains,...

Re: Non-resident, no insurance, minor healthcare question?

Cutting to the quick...

A return to Spain would cost around €150 in travel minimum (whichever way I look at it). Three days in time all told (if lucky). Two nights accommodation etc. So, around...

Non-resident, no insurance, minor healthcare question?

Very briefly...

I used to be based in Spain, but have convinced myself a move to Portugal is my best option. I am in Portugal and need to have a minor skin thing removed. Very small operation, or...

Re: 23 year old, moving to Spain?

You idiot :D

La Pera Limonera is a complimentary idiom expressing 'high quality, or good taste'.

Just as an easy example; 'Soy la pera limonera', would mean 'I'm feeling pretty good'.

Re: Northern Spain, Lugo, Leon, Burgos area

Or, farther north!

Don't write northern Spain off just because the winter inland is hard. All along the coast, winter is very mild. The Atlantic (particularly the Mid-Antlantic drift) keeps the...

Re: Northern Spain, Lugo, Leon, Burgos area

Beautiful. However, I have to reiterate the bit about winter! In the mountains you can expect snow from mid-October until mid-May. You need to be prepared for hard winters anywhere away from the...
