Re: Covid 19

Just seen this morning that Saudi has banned travel from / to all EU countries - except the UK. It's a bit of a risk traveling, but my contract is going to finish at the end of April anyway, so will...

Re: Covid 19

I'm flying back to Blighty early hours Friday morning for a week. Wonder what are the chances of KSA banning incoming flights from UK whilst I'm there. The one week holiday could into several weeks...

Re: Arizona Golf Resort Compound

Good shout on Ranco, visited there a few times and they used to have a really nice pub / bar, always busy at weekends. Had a few good Quiz Nights on Ranco too. I always found it a little out of the...

Re: Arizona Golf Resort Compound

We lived on Seder for five years, my favourite compound of all the places I've lived on, just liked the people and the social life. I've visited Wadi Qurtoba and if I wanted to spend that sort of...

Re: Arizona Golf Resort Compound

Yes, it's nice, and it has - as the name suggests - a 9 hole golf course, and nice landscaped surrounds. With it's own deer. Good location with the British School not too far away. Nice amenities....

Re: Transportation Allowance Definition

In my understanding, the Transport Allowance is as exactly how you have you used it - home to work and return. Either by Uber / Taxi / your own private car.

Site visits during working hours are...

Re: IT Banking Salary levels for Riyadh

Yeah, ditto re the previous replies. If your employer does pay for schooling - check how many kids they will support. Some companies cap it at 2 kids only, some may be more generous. Also, they may...

Re: Housing Near Business Gate, Riyadh

Closest I can think of to Business Gate for that budget is probably Granada Compound, you may also get a three bed at Eid Compound. Both of them are very close to Granada Mall, so pretty close to the...

Re: Family accommodation

We had friends living on there ( Wadi Qurtoba) and they passed a number onto me. I still have it somewhere, not sure if the guy is still working there or not. Let me know if you want it, and I'll PM...

Re: Family accommodation

Wadi Qurtoba is very nice indeed, finished to a high standard. We looked at a 2 bed apartment, the slightly larger ones were coming in at 150k pa. Next up in size are townhouses, and then villas. I'm...

Re: Family accommodation

Approach the compounds directly - a lot of them now have websites and contact emails / phone numbers. Again, in general, compound prices are per year and previosuly, they wanted a years payment in...

Re: Family accommodation

Hi,
Generally speaking, yes, a compound can be very good to socialise, and for younger kids, it can be a great lifestyle. Most of them are gated communities, so once inside, it's almost impossible...

Re: Money transfer from Saudi Arabia to UK

A couple of compnaies I've used in the past are:
Currency Solutions
Currencies Direct

Both pretty much work in the same way. Opoen an account with them, send them your Saudi Riyals directly from...

Re: Recommendations for camping equipment in Riyadh?

Again, second the recommendations for Al Sanidi. Someone once did mention a 'tent' souq that was somewhere in Ruyadh, but can't really remember where he directed me to. Might have been downnear...

Re: I am a doctor moving to Riyadh

Have a look at the British School website for a breakdown on fees

http://www.bisr.com.sa/admissions/school-fees.html

Used cars are easy to find, but you will need to look carefully for one that...

Re: I am a doctor moving to Riyadh

Yes, the 150-200k is far more realistic , can get cheaper but then, the standards do diminish a little. Traffic in Riyadh can be a real headache depending on rush hour. At the moment, Riyadh Metro is...

Re: I am a doctor moving to Riyadh

Hi,
I'm assuming your housing budget is 50k SR ( not 50K Sterling ) as this is your housing allowance. You'll be hard pressed to find compound accommodation for that price, and for that size of...

Agree with the previous two comments. In Saudi , construction / contracting is pretty much dominated by those from Eastern and Arab countries especially when it comes to land surveying. Salaries are...

Re: Living off compound - Riyadh

Generally speaking, rents have reduced a little in Riyadh over the last few years.

85K SR should get you a very nice villa, in a nice part of town, quite spacious and with some luck, might even...

Re: Possible to import vaping supplies from the UE to Dubai?

Don't know about Dubai, but in Saudi they are theoretically banned. However, there are a plethora of sellers on Instagram who sell a wide range of stuff and will deliver directly to you, and of...

Yes, definitely agree about the women, and now I think the Ministry is clamping down on jobs ads that want 'males only' and that type of nonsense. Should be more and more women entering the workplace...
