Re: K1 to U1

Thank you. I can only go on the words posted (even if I misquoted), even though words only convey 10% (or whatever) of the intended meaning.

Re: K1 to U1

Apologies.

She was looking for options.

I asked for advice. Not speculation.

Re: K1 to U1

The US one? Well, four long trips over a year, and in this case only a 5 year age gap. But in general I see your point. In fact, PI airport immigration (they have exit as well as entry immigration)...

Re: K1 to U1

Then maybe you need to go back and re-read what you wrote: "looks like she is using this whole scenario to get a green card ". So you are saying it looks like she is using her abuse as an excuse to...

Re: K1 to U1

Your speculation is distasteful to say the least. Why on earth - HOW on earth - would somebody somehow arrange to be beaten up by her partner in order to somehow end up with a green card? It makes no...

Re: K1 to U1

As I said earlier, she has this already. I'm just asking here for a second opinion. I have no idea how experienced her lawyer is in immigration matters.

Thanks.

Re: K1 to U1

Well, there is a case number, with victim/witness/perp statements and evidence so she has cooperated, assuming you're referring to the " You were helpful, are helpful, or are likely to be helpful to...

Re: K1 to U1

Indeed, I said to her that she might need to reconsider that. I really can't blame her for not wanting to relive it, and after her experience with the police. Damned either way really. I don't know...

K1 to U1

Can somebody who is currently on a K-1 visa but no longer going to marry because of physical abuse from her ex-fiance switch to a U1 nonimmigrant visa/status? And if so, how long would that take...

Re: Apartment burgled

He didn't invent the automobile. He just helped bring the car to the masses. Try Karl Benz.

For bonus points, did the Wright brothers fly the first successful fixed wing plane? There is...

Re: N400 Timeline Atlanta

I also read an article yesterday that said that this year there were 70,000 fewer applications submitted in the first quarter of 2018 vs Q1 2017. But the backlog is growing. Read into that what you...

Re: Which queue at LAX with non immigrant E2 visa?

Which terminal at LAX? Virgin (for example, to name just one) use terminal 4 which IIRC has a different immigration setup to TBIT. In any case there were just two choices at TBIT last week: US...

Re: Working Across Borders / Tax Issues

Six of one, half a dozen of the other as to whether a UK or US bank account. I'd lean toward a UK account so you can control the exchange rate, which a big company wouldn't make much of an effort to...

Re: Working Across Borders / Tax Issues

That entirely depends on your situation. If, like me, you like to keep the taxes owed (or overpaid) to an absolute minimum then the 0.5%/month is negligible. Even if you owed a bit, and you have...

Re: Working Across Borders / Tax Issues

If you live and work in the US then that's where you'll pay taxes - federal/IRS and State, if any.

Quarterly estimated taxes, that's what they like you to do but you can pay monthly or even yearly...

Re: Marriage Insurance: Wedding next year, currently living in UK but moving before

Might not be a bad idea if you're hosting!

Anyway, earlier link leads to this: https://www.wedsure.com/wedding-event-insurance.jsp
(but check the wedding/renewal of vows distinction)

Never...

Re: Working Across Borders / Tax Issues

I worked for my former employer while I was in the US and they were in the UK. But I was a contractor - it's easier that way: I send an invoice; they (eventually) pay into my UK bank account. They...

Re: Hawkinis N400 Timeline - Short Apparently!!

FWIW the San Diego office accepted same day applications before 11am for a 3pm or later pickup. You pay for the expedited service and also need proof of imminent travel (as in within 2 days). Ours...

Re: Hawkinis N400 Timeline - Short Apparently!!

Recommendations are for N600 -OR- passport, not much point doing both, and since a passport is much cheaper. It's what we did, but you need to take the kid's long form birth certificate to show he's...

Just got back from a little over a week on Negros and through Manila. I've been in storms before but the fast moving wall of water that went over last week was something to behold. One minute dry and...

Re: N400 Timeline Atlanta

OP said they overlap, ie former lease ends some days/weeks after the new one starts.

Not that it matters that much.

Re: Dash Cams - Do you use/have them?

I recall one like that, and one where the biker was stopped by the police and "asked" to show his footage.
