We were mostly doing 400 to 500km a day for a couple of days, then staying put 2 nights. That worked pretty well. Then had a couple of extended stays 4 or 5 days in Alice and Uluru.

no we have a Rav4 hybrid. It's AWD. So we kept to sealed roads.

We just did a little 8000 km drive across from FNQ to Karumba then down through Cloncurry, across the Barkly Highway, down to Alice then Uluru, then back through Mount Isa, Winton, Charters Towers,...

I hear from friends it is getting more difficult and Immi more stringent than perhaps they used to be. Penang immi especially.... but this is just second-hand info. I have MM2H.
