You are not considered to be resident in Italy for income tax purposes if you spend under 183 days a year here. If you are a tax resident however you have to declare all your worldwide income...

One month later and the Giffgaff SIM never arrived although I have several emails enquiring why I hadn't used it. Perhaps it has been blocked by customs. Will get a SIM in the UK tomorrow.
