We're in TX and did not have to put the kids on our insurance until they passed their test at 16. They were not required to be on it whilst learning on their permit.

I've had one here in the US every year since I was 40 (I'm 45 now).
I'm quite happy to go once a year if it means early detection..I don't think it's any big deal.

If he already works for the company and is transferring over then he'll probably be on an L1 visa and as his wife...
