Is there any rhyme or reason to UK customs charges? No matter what I send to the UK, no matter what I declare it as (personal item or gift), the recipient may or may not be stung for customs charges....

Your best bet is to sell everything before moving, and then buy second hand or new (if you can) once you get here. That will save on the moving costs, it's extremely expensive to move heavy items...

I asked the same question a couple of months ago. Give it time, they'll offer you one at some point. If you're in no particular hurry to build credit that is.

I live in Kansas, and so far my favourite city is Lawrence. It's so laid back and relaxed, and it reminds me of a town back home.

That's pretty good, I've heard that they don't tend to let you on the unsecured type of card for 12 - 18 months these days. You might have got lucky! Although, as you say, I guess that depends on the...
