Re: Anyone done N600K recently?

Yes, the pandemic slowed so many processes down, interrupting office contacts/interviewing/etc, and causing or exacerbating employee shortages everywhere. I think a dearth of experienced case-workers...

Re: Anyone done N600K recently?

Wow, only 3 years to wait for this! Thanks so much for updating us on the "end" of this long quest, Leah. I've got to get started on doing this for my two grandchildren, or they'll age out of...

Re: Bringing my Cat from UK to US

Good info here! We shipped our cat from UK to USA (NYC) in 2018. As I recall, the process was nerve-wracking & very expensive, but we--and happily the cat--managed it.

1. Check your US state's...

Re: How Isolated is everyone right now?

Similar for me! I love the now-empty streets that used to be so jammed at rush hours, however the ghostly-quiet streets of our town centre are still jarring to me. We're a touristy coastal town which...

Off Topic posts moved from The Little Things thread

I agree. Maybe the Japanese bow will spread all over the world....

Just been listening to an NYC ICU doctor who says strict social distancing should happen for at least a year after the purported...

Re: How Isolated is everyone right now?

Hey, Robin!
Wow, that is a brilliant idea! I really wish our supermarkets would do that. I think I've heard our local Walgreens pharmacy will, & they carry milk & some other food...

Re: How Isolated is everyone right now?

Hubby & I have been fairly isolated for 2 weeks. He's basically retired but is a musician and usually has a calendar chock-a-block with lots of local gigs, practices, sessions, events, etc. All that...

I'm curious, Michele11 - is it possible that this Michele Coven Wolgel is yourself?

Re: To those who've made the move -- what are the biggest pros and cons?

Pros? We were able to afford a bigger house AND plot of land, outside a nicer village, than I could have ever hoped for back in Blighty.
We've found excellent cultural opportunities in one...

Re: Home and garden projects

Raccoon?

Around us, it would be raccoon or groundhog.... They seem to like odd things like banana skins, eggshells, etc.

Red face Re: Anyone done N600K recently?

Thank you for this information, Newacct! I stand corrected...definitively.

Good to know that any time the USC parent or grandparent spends in the US--under ANY immigration status--will count...

Re: Anyone done N600K recently?

Hi again, lonelissy - I can't help with your second question, but as far as your first question goes, I've always understood that the qualifying physical presence years must be years when the parent...

Re: Anyone done N600K recently?

RebeccaS, thank you so much for posting your success story! It's wonderful to hear that your daughter is now a full-fledged US citizen. And that the whole process took only 6-7 (?) months after...

Re: Hurricane Florence - South Carolinas

According to the newspaper link below, flooding is still happening in North & South Carolina. Sections of major roads are impassable, so people are being asked NOT to travel almost anywhere. 11K...

Re: Upsides of turning 65

Wow, this sounds like something I couldn't do full time at my age. I had to cut back from 5 days a week to 4 when I was teaching in my mid-50s (that was before I gave it up completely & switched...

Re: Upsides of turning 65

Yes, I agree. I've almost always worked somewhat active jobs, though no heavy lifting. Schoolteaching kept me hopping  and I also did some home health care work when the teaching got too crazy...

Re: Lazy Labor or Labour Day to everyone!

Thanks for the thought, Lizzyq. Why can't some of those stormclouds passing by (sometimes within miles) all around us actually unload their H2O? :( I'm extremely tired of hand watering.

Re: Lazy Labor or Labour Day to everyone!

I just corrected my original post. Eastern CT (the section far from NYC & environs) is still in dreadful drought.

Our lawn and my gardens were all looking great until July hit. Then despite a few...

Re: Lazy Labor or Labour Day to everyone!

Actually southeastern MA, much of RI, and western parts of CT are in drought conditions. We had an exceptionally wet spring & early summer, but the rains have dried up in the last two months. We...

Re: Lazy Labor or Labour Day to everyone!

Ours has been brilliant! Family arrived en masse Friday evening but has sadly now departed to (vain hope!) get ahead of the traffic returning to the city.... But we had an excellent time, and the...

Re: Selling car in FL

Glad to hear it's all resolved now. I hate it when a friendship gets... what shall I call it? …compromised?... by some issue like this.

Re: Upsides of turning 65

I think I owe you an apology, Sugarmooma, for turning your light-hearted celebration of some of the upsides of turning 65 in a somewhat somber direction. My musing that the school tax exemption for...
