Re: Solar eclipse 2024

Re: Passport photo nightmare...!!

After I had tried a few times I decided to use an app to take them, and paid $8 to have the picture checked manually. It was checked and passed as OK, when I tried to upload on the passport site it...

Re: Passport photo nightmare...!!

I had a similar problem. Once I got the light even across the picture, with no shadows, and bright enough it was OK. Also needed to turn the flash off on the phone. Bad lighting causes the web site...

Re: UK State Pension Statement

I don't recall ever receiving the equivalent of a P60 for the State Pension. As it is paid tax free I wouldn't expert too.

Re: UK State Pension Statement

Re: FBAR - For Joint Accounts

Thanks that's the way I've always completed it. Just the wording on the web page seemed different to previous years and I wondered if I'd missed a change.

Re: UK State Pension and US tax return

As long as you file the IRS doesn't appear to object to the "how"

Make a choice:-

1) Use Schedule 1 and Other Income

2) Use Turbo Tax and fake number

3) Use either TT or HR Block without...

Re: UK State Pension and US tax return

But if you ask the IRS helpline, they will tell you not to use fake numbers. However either way works, and the IRS doesn't seem to object. At the end of the day I use "Other Income" because it is...

Re: UK State Pension and US tax return

Sounds a similar problem to Turbo Tax. Which is why TT suggest using Other Income. Line 2z on Schedule 1, which then goes on line 8 on the 1040. Did that, e-filed and had the 2023 refund in my bank 4...

Re: Moving back to the UK , do I go for dual citizenship

You never know what the future may hold. With 3 members of your family having US citizenship, the ease for you to come and go as you wish IMHO outweighs any disadvantages. Also you do not know what...

Wise Cell Phone App

FYI just went to use the Wise App on an iPhone and it was defaulting to the Fast and Easy payment method, the fee for which is just about double the normal method. Not sure if it's a glitch or not.

Re: UK State Pension and US tax return

My interest in this is solely State based in that Oregon does not tax SS. At present I report the UK State pension as "Other Income".

But for the sake of filling my less productive time, I did...

Re: UK State Pension and US tax return

Where in the instructions to the 1040 does it define what SS is. The instruction is written assuming SS is only sourced from the SSA, but it doesn't define what SS is.

As suggested use "Other Income". I just put the total amount of all UK income in one entry. My wife and I receive 5 UK pensions, I just put...
