Re: Help needed on South Bay area! Possibly moving to San Francisco

We moved to San Jose from the UK a year ago and rent a house in Almaden Valley. All of the schools are excellent in this area (9 or 10) - though you should still expect that if your children move in...

Re: Do US schools expect more from parents?

I have friends from the east coast who are routinely horrified by the public schools in California. Amazing when you consider the wealth around here, particularly in Silicon Valley.

This article...

Re: Physical therapy jobs?

My understanding is that all entry level physical therapy degree programs are moving from masters to doctorate over a period of years, so eventually it will be statewide. There was a grace period for...

Re: Do US schools expect more from parents?

My son has attended school both in the UK and here in California. I certainly don't think there is an expectation that parents volunteer, but as a parent I certainly feel that they need my help more...

Re: Physical therapy jobs?

I'm an occupational therapist from the UK, qualified in 2003 with a BSc, worked in NHS and private practice until we moved to CA in 2012.

I applied for a license here but the qualification...

Re: Recommended neighbourhoods in San Francisco/Bay Area

Hi,

We just moved from the UK to the South Bay Area. We lived in mountain view for a few months in 2011, it's a really nice area and ticks all the boxes you have listed, rents are quite high...

Re: October school entry for 6 and 4 year olds?

Hi!

We just moved to the Bay Area in November. My son is 5, nearly 6, and he was joining mid-way through the year having already done reception & a couple of months of year 1. I tried really hard...

Re: what additional immunisations required for CA?

We just moved to California from the UK in November. My 5 year old son needed Hep B, varicella and a TB test before we could enrol him in school. The TB test has to be done in CA - they won't accept...

Re: From London to the Bay, SJ

1. We rented our UK property out. Our mortgage is with Nationwide & is about 74% LTV. We are on a fixed 5 yr mortgage (not buy to let, as we had just remortgaged six months prior to being relocated)...

Re: From London to the Bay, SJ

Sure, I will inbox you.

Re meeting people, I'm finding that the most difficult. Everyone is super friendly day to day, but it seems hard to take it beyond that - and as you may have guessed from...

Re: From London to the Bay, SJ

The only other thing I have to add is about when to move - I don't know if you were asking for advice or not, so this may be unwanted! But my advice would be just to come.

I found the period...

Re: From London to the Bay, SJ

:) It really is a mammoth move! I tried really hard to be super organised, and it turned out there was still an awful lot we couldn't do until we got here.

1. We haven't had a night out yet, but...

Re: Advice on San Jose CA -

Hi

We just moved to San Jose from the UK (in November) with our 5 year old and 2 year old sons. I did a lot of research in to schools, as ideally we didn't want to have to pay for private...
