Re: Home and garden projects

Your list sounds a lot like mine!

We do actually use the fire pit a decent amount, even into summer.

Laundry room sink and worktop is on the drawing board as is outdoor kitchen. I haven't...

Re: Diet and exercise - a group discussion?

We buy frozen Edamame from Kroger - $1.99 - and steam it in the microwave for 5 mins and then dry fry it in the pan with a pinch of salt for a minute or two. Delicious and mini-Bink (3 y.o boy) goes...

Re: Diet and exercise - a group discussion?

I've found the same. I don't think there's anyway you can hit 10,000 steps at a desk job on an average day unless you go out of your way to hit it.

Re: Diet and exercise - a group discussion?

I ended up getting one at Christmas. It's not perfect (focuses on step based activities) but what it did do for me was make me think about how much water I'd drink, how (generally) active (or...

Re: car with 3 proper seats in the back

You could get a Tahoe/Yukon/escaladeor a traverse/enclave/Acadia with a second row bench seat or the Expedition as the Weeze's have mentioned.

We have an Acadia which an adult could sit in the...

Re: 1099 question

My understanding (and I could be wrong) is that it's income as soon as it's invoiced. Presume your wife invoices the conduit?
So if the invoice for it was generated last year it's 2014 income.

Re: Bi-Weekly pay

You and me both. I end up floating money in and out from my savings when that happens. I should just keep a bit more in my main account (but then I may just spend it...!)

I'm on semi-monthly right...

Re: Estimated tax for 2015

That's how it is here. You tell them how much to withhold and its your responsibility if its wrong. I started off overpaying substantially and am slowly normalizing it closer to breaking even. Even...

Re: Oh no Valentines.....

We don't normally do much. I normally try and cook something special for the wife.
This year we're off to San Antonio for a long weekend with the kids. Looking forward to it.

Re: Diet and exercise - a group discussion?

I prefer to run on grass or asphalt. I'm not mad about running on crushed granite or any kind of gravely path.

And don't worry about speed - it's the getting round that matters.

Re: Moving to Houston, Texas

Welcome!
I'll just reiterate what others have said; $70k isn't a massive amount but it is doable in the suburbs. Upfront costs can definitely be high, I was cash poor with all the deposits...

Re: Diet and exercise - a group discussion?

I put weight on with successive knee then hamstring injuries. The wife convinced me to use SparkPeople which I hated but have since moved on to Fitbit and that's worked better for me. The main...

Re: Any British Expats here in the Houston area? Have you found it hard to make frien

 Yep, daily 290 user here! It's not so bad for me to be honest. I leave my house at 5:15 and I leave the office by 3:30 most days so it's only 20 mins in and 30-35 minutes home (Cypress to...

Re: Price of gas update...

That's a frequent occurrence near me too. There's a Shell and a Chevron that are always at least $0.30 higher than the rest. The wierd thing about the Shell is that it's on Hwy6 about 1/2 mile from...

Re: Any British Expats here in the Houston area? Have you found it hard to make frien

I made friends through playing soccer, work and I already knew people here when I moved here.
Groups are great. We've moved to a new area (my wife's from Houston) and like Weeze, she had great luck...

Re: Price of gas update...

Indeed! It's dropped very quickly. Not to long ago it was costing me $80 to fill up my Acadia. Now only $40.

Re: Price of gas update...

I'd rather not know I think! We spend at least $1k/month there I'd say.
It's pretty awesome. It cost me under $10 to fill up the wife's car!!
