I lived as a resident in Portugal for 10 years (2003-2013) and ran an Lda.

I wasn't even aware that it's possible as a non-resident to start a single-shareholder Lda...

My wife is currently in the UK. She renewed her UK passport but had to supply photocopies of her Canadian passport for the application to proceed. Her details matched on both passports.

That is deemed as time in Canada no matter what flag the vessel may be registered under. The reason I am reasonably sure about this is, to work in Canadian oil & gas sector offshore a foreigner...

Just received exactly the same letter.. except that I am on a ship off the East Coast of Canada and not due back until August! My wife is heading in tomorrow with copies of licences and DVLA...

Yep! All Good. Totally settled here in East Sooke, BC. Never looked back. Will never feel the need to go 'Home' for a visit because this is where our home is!
