I find this thread totally baffling...

I came to Aus 5 years ago with only $3K and immediately put $1K of that on a bond. Two years later I had enough money to buy an apartment in one of the best...

If you settle here then you qualify for Citizenship after a while too; four years in my case (from entry, not from when I got PR). Since I only got citizenship in August, I'm guessing it's still 4...

Permanent Residency. Something you can get on entry if you have the right type of visa, otherwise you would have to do what I did and come on a temporary visa and apply for PR after an alloted time...

As I've pointed out, this isn't necessarily the case. Both sites I've seen them were off tarmac roads; the latter off Highway 1!

I've seen thousands only a few hours from Cairns (Georgetown). They've had a population boom since all the rain in the outback. I've also seen them in coastal WA at Mairee Pool, not a million miles...

Nay bother except at dusk, and even then really not bad at all. The sandflies are far worse (I've even been bitten in bed), but at least they don't drive you to despair by landing on your face again...

I would agree with you 100% on B and D, but not A and C alas. Well OK, the 'camping and trekking' bit is fantastic, but not the way the National Parks are often managed.

Cairns is number one in Aus for not having them. One of the reasons I couldn't live in many parts of the south is the bush flies! They simply don't exist up here.
