Yes, the finacee visa is only valid for 6 months and doesn't allow you to work. You need to get married within 6 months and apply for the spouse visa afterwards. You'll pay $1337 for the fiancee visa...

OK, you really should have waited for your wife to become British before getting your green card. But what's done is done. ILR is intended for people who want to live in the UK, which is not the case...
