Re: Ping pong pom

Mmmmm. You're in roehampton? I don't know how long you've been away but roehampton is a commonly accepted shithole, so it's not surprising you don't like it. I don't like it either and I hope you...

Re: Should donated money be used for house rebuilding of those who were not insured?

Surely that's not surprising - and should make it even more fundamental. That's the nature of probability and insurance.

Re: $42 billion Stimulus Package

It's all politicking. I agree with most of what you say, except I'm even more scathing. This all makes me so angry - not just here, but what's being done in the US, UK, Europe, suggested by the IMF...

Re: Should the victims of the Victoria Fires have their homes rebuilt gratis ...

Crikey ABCD I've never known anybody with such a love of random statistics - especially of the pro-australian kind, which is fair enough but getting a little predictable.

Anyway, the 'which...

Re: $42 billion Stimulus Package

Agree with you. However, judging by the chorus of cries for these sort of 'packages' around the world unfortunately I think it's too late.

Re: Beware of selling your ozzy house on a fixed rate loan

I do agree with you on that point - where the risks are explained. Maybe the banks could also do a better job of also explaining how mortgagees could themselves hedge the risk (through...

Re: Beware of selling your ozzy house on a fixed rate loan

I’m not disputing fees, just that there’s a big difference between 3% of outstanding & 4% rate differential applied for the mortgage term. The banks (and customers!) seem to be defending their...

Re: Beware of selling your ozzy house on a fixed rate loan

Good to hear you didn't listen to them. There was a Today Tonight program on the issue (ok it is a sensationalist show and not exactly in depth/rounded) but I think they make a fair point.

Re: Beware of selling your ozzy house on a fixed rate loan

Crikey, they make it so clear... What you need from them is the amount still owed. You can then plug that into a mortgage calculator to work out two different total amounts that would be paid...

Re: Beware of selling your ozzy house on a fixed rate loan

It would be reasonable if it actually represented their risk, but it doesn't and the means by which banks hedge it isn't so much prudent as just normal operations. It's a simple game of pass the buck...

Re: Beware of selling your ozzy house on a fixed rate loan

There's quite a difference though in how those banks made their money - usual business and consumer banking vs speculative and financial market operations (rightly or wongly), domestic vs...

Re: Beware of selling your ozzy house on a fixed rate loan

I understand that may the way it's done here, but I don't think it's right or that they'd end up going under. It's the job of a bank to manage their mortgage book cashflow through forward rate...

Re: Beware of selling your ozzy house on a fixed rate loan

I think that's the same thing really, which I think is unfair.

Profits - that's my point. I don't understand why the government has created a market where the banks screw over the taxpayers to...

Re: Beware of selling your ozzy house on a fixed rate loan

Yeah they don't make it easy - try searching the CBA website for info on early repayment charges - nada.

I know all countries have exit fees and that should always be a consideration, but I've...

Re: Beware of selling your ozzy house on a fixed rate loan

I agree with you, but not if the charge method wasn't explained/not written into the contract. I also do not understand why the country has allowed the banks to impose fees of that kind - but...

Re: Beware of selling your ozzy house on a fixed rate loan

Despite what everyone else has said I still think it sounds odd. I'mnot sure if you're saying the broker 'recommended' a fixed rate, but in the uk I'm fairly sure brokers/lenders are not allowed to...

Re: Beware of selling your ozzy house on a fixed rate loan

Maybe although they didn't mention switching, but even if they are it's still a ridiculous charge. I know there's always a risk with fixed rates - and some charge incurred - but that's extortionate...

Re: Beware of selling your ozzy house on a fixed rate loan

No, I've never heard of that in the UK. Charges are usually a function of either the amount orginally borrowed, the amount left to pay (capital), or a set number of months. I've never heard of any...
