Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I posted -- I came back in 2011/12 with an 18-month-old and my American husband. Some of you might remember he was struggling to find work, but landed a role...

Re: American DH is having awful time finding job

He'll be commuting from Newark in Nottinghamshire for the moment, as I have a good permanent job in Lincoln. Not quite as bad as it sounds -- at an hour and a quarter on the train, it's actually...

Re: American DH is having awful time finding job

You folks are obviously my lucky stars for today because HE GOT THE SECOND JOB!!!! He is thrilled! We won't be quite as well off, as the train fares are astronomical, but it's in his field and...

Re: Banking upon return

I'm banking with Nationwide--they were lovely when I first arrived and I've found their customer service to be excellent. (If you call their customer line you get through straight away, unlike HSBC...

Re: American DH is having awful time finding job

Hi Folks,

Another update and this time with some more positive news. DH got a call from a local council that he'd interviewed for twice before about a temporary role. He interviewed for it on...

Re: Moving back to UK after 7 years in NZ with our toddlers.

Moved back in 2011 and my toddler loves it over here! Loves the green space, loves his nursery (which is a fraction of what it cost in the USA and they do so much more!), there are so many theme...

Re: Getting a job in UK while still abroad

I suppose it varies by sector but I found that no one was willing to even look at my application until I was in the country--it might be different if you're able to fly over for interviews but I...

Re: American DH is having awful time finding job

Thanks, I'll look into that. Someone had recommended National Careers Service too but they seem more geared up towards young adults.

Re: American DH is having awful time finding job

Apologies for the delay in response. We're in Lincolnshire...not exactly a thriving economic hub but it does have good rail links to London, Nottingham and Sheffield.

Re: American DH is having awful time finding job

Thanks everyone--just found out he didn't get the job he interviewed for this week, but there is some good news from that: they at least gave him some feedback--some good and the bad is actionable so...

Re: American DH is having awful time finding job

Please no squabbles on my account! Idollard has made a few assumptions but I'm not offended by them.

I think there probably is something amiss in my "Dear Husband's" (;)) interview technique,...

American DH is having awful time finding job

Hi Folks,

It's been a while since I updated--hope everyone is getting along well.

I've put this in the general section because I'm also sort of looking for advice too, but feel free to move...

Re: Theresa May wants minimum income of £25,700; £49,000 if you have 2 kids

So I was just reading this: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/newsarticles/2012/june/13-family-migration

and this jumped out at me: introducing a new minimum income threshold of...

Re: UK Spouse Visa Information - evidence required etc

Fortunately my DH was already issued his visa because I'd fall short of the income minimum by 1,200GBP...and getting a weekend job isn't exactly easy when you're trying to raise your toddler alone...

Re: Theresa May wants minimum income of £25,700; £49,000 if you have 2 kids

So slightly self-interested question but what happens to those of us who already have the visa? My DH is due to arrive on June 29th. He has a two-year visa. Will they just give him another temporary...

Re: Theresa May wants minimum income of £25,700; £49,000 if you have 2 kids

My parents live in Lincolnshire on around 16-18K. They have a mortgage (though it's nearly complete so the price of the house wasn't as high as today's standards) and while they're not rolling in...

Re: Anybody Gone Home With Nothing?

I rolled up with what I could fit in two suitcases and very little in savings (no more than $1,500). I do have family over here who offered me a place to stay and that's been a huge help. Otherwise,...

Re: DH got his visa! A little about how the process worked for us!

It'll depend on where you live, as the UKBA use the USCIS application support centres so there should be somewhere nice and local. My DH actually went to Varick Street in NYC, which was the same...

Re: Theresa May wants minimum income of £25,700; £49,000 if you have 2 kids

My local MP has been pretty responsive, forwarding my concerns to Damien Green the immigration minister. The responses I've goten from the immigration minister are about as useful as a bicycle to a...

8 Month Update - Moving with a toddler

Hello everyone,

I've been popping in intermittently, mostly to ask questions re: spouse visas, but thought I'd stop by to give a little update.

I've been back in the UK for nearly 8 months and...

Re: PROOF OF INCOME

At the moment you can also show evidence of potential income/earnings. Lots of people do this by submitting qualifications certificates, a resume and print outs of job postings you would be eligible...
