Thanks, I'll look into that. Someone had recommended National Careers Service too but they seem more geared up towards young adults.

Apologies for the delay in response. We're in Lincolnshire...not exactly a thriving economic hub but it does have good rail links to London, Nottingham and Sheffield.

Fortunately my DH was already issued his visa because I'd fall short of the income minimum by 1,200GBP...and getting a weekend job isn't exactly easy when you're trying to raise your toddler alone...

My parents live in Lincolnshire on around 16-18K. They have a mortgage (though it's nearly complete so the price of the house wasn't as high as today's standards) and while they're not rolling in...

It'll depend on where you live, as the UKBA use the USCIS application support centres so there should be somewhere nice and local. My DH actually went to Varick Street in NYC, which was the same...

At the moment you can also show evidence of potential income/earnings. Lots of people do this by submitting qualifications certificates, a resume and print outs of job postings you would be eligible...
