Re: To all Brits - Americans understand you?

Re: To all Brits - Americans understand you?

I will never order at the drive through. We only do it on road trips though, when the whole family is in the car. I'm driving and I make hubby, who is sitting in the passenger seat, shout across me...

Re: Anyone in the Raleigh area?

Whoah. You live in a 10,000 sq ft house? Was that a typo? I've seen those online and on the TV but didn't know that real people actually lived in houses that big.

Do you have lots of kids or large...

Re: If you could live anywhere in the USA?

We are also in Maryland. I fought tooth and nail against relocating from the CA Bay Area but actually quite like it here. Only downsides are the mosquitos in the summer, crap skiing and nasty...

Re: Cadburys and Customs

So naive poster here - what are the easy indicators of UK vs American cadbury?
I seem to have no issue in persuading my 3 US born kids that British chocolate is waaaay better than American. Hubbie...

Re: Craigs list Vs Trulia/Zillow looking for rentals in Pacifica/Bay Area SF

Check the school district. There are some good and some mildly mediocre schools in Pacifica. That could explain the difference in rental price.

Re: Timing: dual citizenship, passport, name and travel issue

I just called BA, and they confirmed, contrary to my expectation that it's actually very easy to update a name on a flight ticket. I have to email them with copies of my UK passport and new US...

Re: Timing: dual citizenship, passport, name and travel issue

Thanks for this. I will call British Airways and ask about the name change on the ticket.

I just got a letter this week telling me about the interview location and time 1:47pm (talk about...

Timing: dual citizenship, passport, name and travel issue

I am currently a UK citizen and green card holder, living in the USA for the last twelve years and finally in the process of becoming a US citizen.

My UK identity continues to be in my maiden...

Re: CHEESE!

Round here Whole Foods has a great selection. I agree that finding a really good, take the roof off your mouth, cheddar is a challenge. But if you like a wide range of good cheese, then Whole Foods...

Re: People of the SF East bay......

I lived coast side for ten years (three different locations - Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay and then El Granada). Each time moving slightly closer to SF where I was working. We chose to buy there because...

Re: Employer's unmatched 401k scheme

I'm confused about this bit - any insight on what the restrictions are on converting IRA to ROTH? Other than having to pay the tax (at marginal rates), I didn't think that there were any...

Re: Having a baby in the USA: our experience

Wow. You must be something special. Steak and champagne!

I thought that we had pretty good insurance and all I got was a cup of apple juice and some ice chips (which I then promptly threw up).

Re: What happens when H1B is rejected?

Most H1B petitions are 'rejected' because they don't get selected for processing. Meaning that there were more than twice as many applications for H1B than there were available visas. Did you get a...

Re: University costs for your kids -- do you have a plan?

It was 2 years ago. Modeled on Stanford. Undergraduate only.

I agree, it seemed ludicrously high. We didn't do anything different after the conversation so she didnt get any commission but it did...

Re: University costs for your kids -- do you have a plan?

We met with a financial advisor a few years back who did some projections for us. Our daughter was roughly 4 or 5 at the time and I seem to remember that the advisor estimated that by the time that...

Re: Anyone used Transferwise to move money?

I was hunting earlier to see what the limit was on the amount to transfer but couldn't see it.

I just found it, apparently it's £1 million! Shouldn't be any problem there for me then!
