My wife confirmed things with the GP in Dundalk today. It seems that the confusion was because, in her words, it had never happened before??!!

We said that our GP wouldn't transfer the records...

Thanks for that. Yes that was the impression I had formed.

The issue arose because the GP we spoke to in Dundalk (perhaps because she was English herself) said she would request records from the UK.

Be wary of opinions on this subject. HMRC may well take a view regarding where the centre of your interests lie. If your family and property are in the UK for example, but you're working in RoI...

Been offered another one today. Your friend might be finding it impossible to get a job in computer programming in Ireland, but I can assure you his experiences are not universal.
