We have huge art and craft stores over here that will make your jaw drop!

Don't bring the glue! Just replace it over here, simple! Write a list of what you're not bringing then get it again.

Re: Texas Driving Licence

Re: Texas Driving Licence

That's the idea, but didn't they specifically ask for a 'Permanent Residence Card' ?

I don't understand what the stamp is good for myself, maybe just finding work, but NC definately asked for my...

Don't p*** off the DMV officials!

At least over here you can go down on spec (with a green card), take a...

Re: Any British nurses recently relocated to the US?

I definately would not recommend moving back. I've just left there.

Maybe try another state? Which state are you currently living?

Re: Moving Money

Whichever way you look at it, bringing Cash in pounds or dollars will involve either a bank or foreign exchange place.

XE trade will give a better exchange rate than any of these places can offer....

Re: Moving Money

Only if you use CHAPS as the transfer. Using BACS is free.

XETrade make their commission from giving around 0.026 below the current exchange rate, so you can work out how much its costing you.

Re: 18 Shot at Illinois uni

Utter crap. St Valentine never massacred people. There are at least 3 St Valentines known throughout history and at least 2 are associated with helping people from persecution. 'Saint' is applied...

Re: 18 Shot at Illinois uni

One of the biggest problems in all of these shootings is the media. They unwittingly do exactly what the shooters want, by plastering their names and pictures everywhere, giving them instant fame for...

Re: Tax on shares sold in UK

This is how I understand it:-

You should only be paying tax in the country you have setup as your permanent residence.

2 and a half years ago you should have filed a P85 will the IR and then...

Re: Tax payable in the US when Primary Residence sold in the UK

You have no liability on the UK side of things because you've been a US resident for a number of years.

But, I'm sure the IRS will expect you to pay on the gain over here.

Maybe speak to an...

Re: Tax payable in the US when Primary Residence sold in the UK

Agree. OP will not have to pay any tax on the house sale.

Everything I read says it must be reported, but which form do you tell the IRS that? F2555 as foreign earned income or just the F1040?

Re: Tax payable in the US when Primary Residence sold in the UK

Re: Tax payable in the US when Primary Residence sold in the UK

Not trying to confuse people, honest! ;) Believe me, if you're adamant an F2555 does not have to be filled then I will go with that.

My house sold 3 months after I was US permanent resident so...

Re: Tax payable in the US when Primary Residence sold in the UK

Here's the IRS link:-

So the IRS are saying if your foreign gain is less than $250k/$500k then you do not have to...

Re: Tax payable in the US when Primary Residence sold in the UK

You do need to mention it, otherwise the IRS, informed by the banks, will question what that large sum of money that came in from the UK was.

Form F2555 is used to claim the exemption, but you're...

Re: Tax payable in the US when Primary Residence sold in the UK

There's a tax treaty in place between the US and UK. I think you have one shot of declaring a foreign earned income on a primary residence, where you're exempt from paying tax. You just need to...
