Re: What if ... (a Brexit question, sorry)

Even if all else fails, I think the usual sort of "fudge factors" will come into play if necessary. It seems vanishingly unlikely that negotiators on either side would simply throw in the towel after...

Re: What if ... (a Brexit question, sorry)

Yes, and without more nuanced debate than either side seems to be capable of, it probably would have been close to political suicide too.

Re: citizenship by descent

The only documents you can supply are those that you used to apply for your British passport, presumably your father's birth certificate, your parents' marriage certificate, and your birth...

Re: EEA permit question

I'm not sure why that is relevant – the Kingdom of Denmark, the Kingdom of Spain and several other kingdoms in Europe are countries too, as well as the UK.

In fact, of the constituent parts of...

Re: New UK Immigration Rules Effective 7/9/12

Thanks for the link, rebeccajo! :)

Re: New UK Immigration Rules Effective 7/9/12

Completely agree. I read the date as 7 September 2012 and not as July 9, 2012!

Re: Scottish Independence & UK Citizen by Descent (England)

No one can possibly say for certain what would happen if Scotland were to become independent of the UK and therefore were to create its own nationality laws, with a Scottish citizenship as part of...

Re: Advice needed re - daughter living in Peru and wants to come for Holiday with Bab

I don't think that's quite right. A right of abode certificate will not be issued to someone who has a valid British citizen passport. However, person with a right of abode certificate in another...

Re: Irish citizens can study for free in Scotland

No, you are right.

Now, I may be wrong about this, but I think, moreover, that British citizens who have been living in another EEA country [i.e. not the UK (leaving aside Scotland)] for 3 years...

Re: immigration of uk

Hello, shahid786! I think that your Italian "Permesso di soggiorno per soggiornanti di lungo periodo" will enable you to travel visa-free (for short, non-working visits – up to 3 months) to other...

Re: Behave Yourselves, Guys

Pretty lame sort of sex party, if you ask me... three guys round up two hookers and still can't get to home base (or so it seems).

Re: What happens to my green card after a move?

You don't have to pay taxes forever. As a US citizen living outside the US you would be expected to file a US tax return annually – it doesn't follow that any tax would be due.

You certainly...

Re: Resident Return Visa or Australian Citizenship?

Given how close it is until you are eligible to apply for Australian citizenship, I'd say do that. A resident return visa is not valid indefinitely, and you never know when the rules about visas...

Re: Renewing Aus Passports

One thing to bear in mind: as Australian citizens they must use an Australian passport to enter and leave Australia: when leaving Australia they can check in to the airline with their British...

Re: Renewing Aus Passports

I doubt it makes much difference. It is easy enough to renew an Australian passport through Australia House in London provided that you have all the necessary paperwork. If you do that, however, I...

Re: Half the year in UK, Half in Australia

As you say, the reciprocal agreement is really useful only for circumstances in which the person falls ill in the UK and needs treatment. Things such as ongoing medication for chronic conditions...

zakuro, I just posted this in another thread:

I've never lived in either, and I'd put them both at the top of the tree as far as inland regional centres in NSW are concerned.

Personally, I'd...

Re: Where to live in Orange, NSW?

Orange is a nice town, one of the best inland regional centres in NSW (or Australia, for that matter) in my view, with a good housing stock and good amenities.

Owing to its altitude, its climate...

Huh? Where did you get this mis-information from.

In general terms (and with very few exceptions), countries that allow dual citizenship allow multiple citizenship in the same circumstances....

Re: In the US 50 yrs, want to go home now

You don't say if you have made trips back to the UK at all (recently or otherwise), but it seems the obvious thing would be to make one now. As someone said, it probably needs to be moderately...

Yes, and on the whole the people who go to Dubai have a job to slot into and often have housing organised (at least initially) by their employer; most people who go to Australia have to find their...

Re: THANK YOU AUSTRALIA

Interesting point. But I think you see this sort of thing a lot. In the comparison of Australia with Dubai, it's worth noting that most British people who move to Australia see it (potentially, at...
