Nice to get into your own place, though, no?

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build

I will PM you with Oscar's Jpeg reduction prog: freeware, nice little utility , self evident to use and shrinks pictures to whatever size/ quality you want. The ones I put on here are reduced from...

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build

Congratulations: it's stressfull, to put it mildly but worth it when you lock up your rental for the last time!

To put it into perspective, six months after moving in we are still getting new...

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build

Yes, it's not just the size (although size matters...) but the shape that screws you up, isn't it?

Our fridge is an LG side-by-side: the only one we could find that fitted into the rental's fridge...

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build

Yes, be warned: fridges *are* a big problem when you design a kitchen. Most other appliances - dishwashers, ovens, microwaves and the likes - are modular and will fit 99% of the time. But fridges...

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build

You really *need* to be on site 24/7 to see where things are going wrong and be in a position to get them put right before they are "locked in". We had really major defects being put in during the...

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build

That is the "Australian way" I'm afraid.

Probably 75% of trades we have contacted fail to reply or to call back. I am sure the reason is partly because the regulations about DIY are so restrictive...

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build

They certainly look big enough to take a lot of concrete sewage! (Try drinking more water <g>)

They are pressing on, from the looks of things.

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build

Certainly not - the very idea <G>.

I'd probably be better off if I had been though!

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build

Not quite true: a slab takes many months to achieve a balance of water content that goes with the ambient humidity.

The "curing" process is a bit different - it's the gradual chemical "setting" of...

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build

There are two types of protection for the slab during curing but it doesn't affect the time whichever they use.

One style is to cover the concrete with polythene, the other is to spray on a sort...

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build

No, that's not possible. But we have an acre of land, most of which is going to be planted with natives so we've been planting at the back, out of the way of the builders, for 3 months now. So far...

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build

I'm only on a 512KB broadband and there certainly *seems* to be a long time before some photos finish loading. I may have let Oscar's program keep quite a large file size on some: I use it quite a...

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build

Comin on fine, thanks. As soon as the sun comes out and it is dry enough to set foot in the "garden" again I'll post! (It's been tipping down for so long now that the bits of my land that haven't...

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build

Looks like a very nice hole <g>.

Can I make a suggestion? Download an image compressor - they are only a few Kb - and the photos come up much quicker, and more people will bother to look at them....

Re: Tiawamutu's House Build

DO make sure that your contract enables you to go onsite whenever you wish - you will see all sorts of things that need to be righted and it's too late when the cock-ups are covered with wallboard!
